Summary: This article gives us an example of how SWOT and Quality Function Deployment can be used in a company. They talk about XYZ company and how they see declining sales in their sardines. They are accessing their sardine tomato sauce to see how to up their sales. They posed two ideas to improve this product. One of them was to improve the viscosity of the product. “To develop the attributes of viscosity can be done by adding tomato sauce to 15% and adding starch thickener. For the development of flavor attributes, the composition of the design includes sardines (55%), tomato

Assignment 1.2 2 paste (15%), red chili paste (10%), starch thickener, garlic, onion, orange leaf, soybean oil, salt, sugar, and water.” (Saragih et al., 2020, 8) The other was to improve the display of the product label and ease of using the product for the customer. “Design product attributes can be developed by adding a can opener to facilitate customers in opening the product when customers open it. Expired label attributes can be developed with position expired labels on the top of the package so that consumers easily read the expired labels attached.” (Saragih et al., 2020, 8) 3. Critique: This article helped me see a practical way that SWOT could be used in an actual business setting. They used the SWOT matrix to help assess what problem areas the company had. This helped me picture how I could use this in my own work. This article also helped me see a practical way that QFD is used. They found that customers have a lot of insight into the product as they are the ones who see and use this product day in and day out. The company was then able to come up with concepts to improve its product after listening to customer concerns. 4. Application: I can see making a SWOT matrix to help get my thoughts down on paper in an effective way. This is a great visual to help picture where the problem areas may be for specific problems. I feel like this article shows a real process that a company would go through when trying to solve an issue in decreasing sales of a product. They dug into the issue and found issues that customers had with the product I would share this article to show my colleagues or supervisors a different way of assessing a problem as we all tend to get stuck in one way of thinking. This would change how I approach a situation as I would be able to have a clearer picture of the best solution. We all tend to go for the quick fix over actually researching an issue, and adding these processes would slow me down and think things through.
