Week 7: New Jersey’s Hudson River Tunnel project 1.In September-October 2010, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie made an important decision regarding the state’s Hudson River Tunnel project. What was his decision? What did he state as the primary reason for his decision? The project's inefficiency, the out-of-control expense, and the fact that New Jersey would have to foot the bill for the additional alterations led him to decide against moving forward with the plan. The difficulty with the new tunnel project was that the costs were unknown, and the project resources were not allocated properly in the correct areas. The issue was the out-of-control expenditure and the fact that the state of New Jersey was forced to pay for the project's excessive cost. The project was not balanced due to the division of responsibility/efforts, and the state of New Jersey's financial difficulties prompted the decision to stop the project. 2.Based on the articles and the video, do you think his decision was justified? Why or why not? Should this project have continued? The new tunnel's costs were too high compared to its benefits; thus, I agree with Governor Chris Christie that the project should be cancelled. The costs were so high that the Governor notified worried citizens about the state's progress at a town hall meeting that if the project and excessive spending continued, they would be unable to fund their payrolls. The tunnel project reached a stage when it no longer met the original project plan, and the project began to develop beyond its initial scope. I looked up some of Chris Christie's town hall meetings, and he is more interested with the state's success than with a few chosen groups. Governor Christie should not proceed with this project since the costs are prohibitively expensive for his state, and even if it would improve the city's efficiency, the manner of completion is not worthwhile.
