As you read and watched the material, you were informed about the various European empires vying for control of territory in North America. For this assignment, you are to take the role of a Native American tribal leader. You are deciding on which nation to ally your tribe with during the French and Indian War. You are to weigh the option between France and Great Britain. While you are deciding on which nation to side with during the war, please consider the pros and cons regarding Social, Political, Economic, Religious, and Military and write a paragraph detailing your information for both nations
(1 paragraph for France and 1 paragraph for Great Britain).
In your assignment, summarize these 5 components for both nations, and in your summary of which nation you decide to ally with, describe the reasons and include the factors regarding your decision
The French were familiar with many tribes thought trade recruited the Potawatomi, Winnebago, Ojibwa, Mississauga and the Huron. The British turned to the Iroquois Confederacy
The French focused on trading Pro Economic French
The French had more success at converting natives to Christianity Pro Religious French
Military pro because alliances As a Native American tribal leader caught between the French and British as tensions rise over the coveted Ohio River Valley in the mid eighteenth century, the pros to fight with the French far outweigh the cons. Socially, the French have been far less hostile. Politically, the French made many alliances
during the last century while building trading relationships. Economically, trade with the French has been very beneficial. Religious, the French have converted many natives to Christianity, as such maybe seen as religious leaders. Militarily, if my tribe is aligned with any tribe that has already sided with the French (Huron), our allegiance would follow as well. The benefits of siding with the British are far fewer. It would come down to the fact that once the tides turned and the British started to win, it would be beneficial to be on the winning side. This and the fact that the French had already been fighting against the Iroquois since the early sixteen hundred’s as they had made alliances with the Huron is probably why I would have sided with the British if I were a leader within the Iroquois Confederacy.
