Module 2 Reflection
Throughout this module, which extensively covered the American Civil War, I have undertaken a compelling journey that effectively connects the Learning Outcomes to the knowledge I have acquired.
Learning Outcome 1 prompted a thorough exploration of the impact of major events in U.S. military conflicts on military organization and strategy. The American Civil War was a thorough case study that demonstrated how momentous historical occurrences could result in revolutionary adjustments to military doctrine and organization. Through the examination of numerous campaigns, engagements, and tactics utilized during the conflict, I acquired significant
understanding of the intricate connection between past events and the advancement of military technology.
During the course of the American Civil War, I improved my capacity to evaluate historical ducuments and other types of evidence, which is in line with Learning Outcome 2. By interacting with primary sources including historical maps, letters, and more, I was able to uncover the opinions and firsthand accounts of people who experienced this difficult period in history. With the help of these original materials, I was able to uncover the complex aspects of the time and create a more thorough understanding of this significant period in American history.
Learning Outcome 3 came to life through an exploration of the technological advances that left an indelible mark on military operations and organization during the American Civil War. This battle demonstrated how cutting-edge advancements in logistics, communication, and weaponry transformed how war was fought. These technological developments were crucial in forming military tactics, from the introduction of rifled muskets to the incorporation of railroads for troop transportation.

Furthermore, a thorough analysis of the American Civil War sharpened my capacity to assess the use of military force to achieve political goals, as stressed in Learning Outcome 4. This historical era demonstrated the close relationship between military operations and political goals and decision-making. It became clear that the American Civil War was a sophisticated fusion of diplomacy, military campaigns, and political scheming, underscoring the complex interactions between politics and warfare in the service of certain objectives.
To encompass Learning Outcome 7, I synthesized and critically reflected on the artifacts and knowledge gleaned throughout this module. The artifacts, including primary sources, historical accounts, and scholarly analyses, provided a rich tapestry of information. I was able to synthesize this knowledge into a comprehensive understanding of the American Civil War and critically reflect on its significance in shaping the course of U.S. history.
I improved my ability to create strong, well-organized historical arguments in the last section of this module, which is in line with Learning Outcome 5. This ability was demonstrated in the essay "The American Civil War: Causes, Strategies, and Turning Points." The knowledge I
learned in this module was applied to my essay, and the process of developing a coherent and convincing historical explanation demonstrated my development as a historical researcher. It has given participants a place to put the knowledge they have learned throughout the program to use while emphasizing how complex historical interpretation and reasoning are when applied to military history.
In conclusion, the American Civil War served as a captivating backdrop for addressing all six of the learning outcomes it applies to. This crucial era in American history illustrated the intricate relationship between politics and military action, demonstrated the profound effects of historical events on military organization and strategy, developed my ability to analyze historical
