Response Post #1
Hi Ruth,
Your post was very informative and sheds light on an issue of utmost importance to healthcare providers and personnel and the entire public. I agree with your submission that implementing electronic health records (EHR) has positively transformed patient healthcare, leading to streamlining patient healthcare data and enabling better coordination of care among healthcare personnel, resulting in improved patient health outcomes and increased patient satisfaction scores. Prevailing research has shown that “medication errors are currently a
global
issue in maintaining patients’ safety and are the main causes of harm to the patient which are preventable” (Ratanto et al., 2021, p. 97). Ongoing research has shown that using EHR positively affects the safety and efficacy of medication administration, leading to a drastic reduction in medication administration errors and improved patient health outcomes (Bloom et al., 2021). Your PICO(T) question elucidates these facts.
For my research on this topic, I used the Walden University library database, which led me to the CINAHL PLUS FULL TEXT database. I typed in electronic health records, leading to the EBSCO HOST database. I utilized “Expanders” like “apply equivalent subjects.” I also employed “Limiters” like
“Full Text,” “Publication Date 2019 to 2023,” and “Peer Reviewed Scholarly Journals.” I also employed “Boolean / Phrase” like “electronic health records and patient safety,” which led me to the ProQuest database, from where I was directed to the “Science Direct Database, where I sourced my research articles.
