Formulating a clearly defined question is one of the most difficult challenges in conducting evidence-based practice research (Davis, 2011). Correspondingly, I agree that the PICOT format makes searching for evidence on a research topic much more effortless. After reading the resources provided in this module, I have a few recommendations that may assist you in improving the effectiveness and technique of your database search. For example, a technique that may help make research on hospital-acquired infections easier is using the subject heading search option instead of the keyword search option. According to Melynk and Fineout-Overholt (2023), using the subject heading strategy will expand all the subjects related to hospital- acquired infections and allow the filtering out of relevant articles on the topic. Using the subject heading strategy on the CINAHL database enables the user to choose synonyms and relevant terms on hospital-acquired infections such as infection control, handwashing, disease outbreaks, staphylococcal infection, risk assessment, and many more. Furthermore, since healthcare and research are rapidly evolving, limiting articles from the last five years will provide more concise and reliable evidence regarding your topic. Overall, your topic choice and shreds of evidence will compel the importance of infection control in a clinical setting. References Davies, K. S. (2011).
