Patience, great post. In addition to the two methods, you mentioned in your response of using the database filter system and using alternative terms there are a few other methods that can be used when trying to find appropriate articles. Another suggestion would be to use Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms and standardized subject headings specific to the databases. The National Library of Medicine created the regulated and hierarchically organized MeSH thesaurus. Biomedical and health-related data
can be indexed, cataloged, and searched using it. MeSH consists of the topic headings found in the NLM Catalog, MEDLINE/PubMed, and other NLM resources (National Library of Medicine, 2019). These terms are designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of searches by using a controlled vocabulary. The accuracy, consistency, and thoroughness of literature searches are greatly increased when MeSH phrases are used in research. Another suggestion for narrowing down research articles is to think about restricting the search results to a particular time frame for the purpose of including the most current and pertinent studies. Proficiency in online nursing research can have a significant impact on your career and academic performance in nursing school. Nursing and medicine are fields that change quickly, therefore being up to date on nursing research techniques online is essential (Nurse Journal, 2020). This can be particularly significant in areas of
study that are developing quickly.
Researchers can improve the effectiveness and precision of their database search by combining these tactics, which will result in a more thorough and well-curated collection of papers that directly address the clinical condition mentioned in the PICOT query.
