This article also discusses how a health coach can help individuals overcome obstacles and achieve their health goals by providing support and guidance over several months. By regularly checking in with clients, health coaches ask questions to help clients identify and overcome challenges preventing them from progressing. Through motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, health coaches can help clients work through these thoughts and develop strategies for making sustainable lifestyle changes. Health coaching is not about someone telling you what to do; it is about respecting your terms and reasons for wanting to change. Studies show that people who go through three months of health coaching significantly improve their blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides, body weight, and cardiovascular fitness. Health coaching can help people see the possibilities based on their unique situation and abilities so that it's simpler and easier to make sustainable changes ( Health coaches: What they do – and how they can help you, 2021). This article guides what to look for in a health coach. It suggests asking healthcare providers for recommendations or contacting health insurance providers for approved lists. It also recommends choosing a national board-certified health and wellness coach (NBC-HWC) who has received proper training. Health coaches can help individuals set and achieve health goals, overcome barriers, and switch to a healthier lifestyle.
