The Sault Area Hospital (SAH) has a Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) with clear
goals and steps that are in line with Ontario's healthcare improvement priorities and the
hospital's own objectives[CITATION Sau23 \l 1033 ]. The SAH is dedicated to giving
patients a great experience and top-notch medical care. The hospital has been named a Level
1 Choosing Wisely Canada Hospital, which is a national effort to cut down on tests and
treatments that aren't needed. The Platinum Jubilee Award was given to oncologist and SAH
Chief of Staff Dr. Silvana Spadafora in recognition of her service to the hospital[CITATION

Main Principles:
The main principles behind hospital quality improvement models, such as the ones
used by the Sault Area Hospital (SAH), are as follows:
1. There should be steady and small steps toward improvement.
2. Every worker should look for ways to make things better.
3. Goals need to be clear and easy to measure.
4. Help people adopt by giving them hands-on projects to make things better.
5. Explain quality and get everyone to agree.
6. Measure to get better, not to be responsible.
7. The project to make things better generally has several Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) rounds.
8. The QI method is based on basic ideas like gathering data, analysing it, and trying changes.
These principles create an environment where everyone can accomplish their best job.
PDSA cycles improve things and apply excellent solutions iteratively. Continuous quality
improvement (CQI) managers appreciate employee innovation and motivation. People who

improve the world are acknowledged. Respect includes support. Employees should have

Background:
SAH's healthcare issue stems from the necessity to improve patient care. The hospital
serves 115,000 people in Sault St. Marie and Algoma with basic, medium, and tertiary care.
Growth objectives include compassionate patient-centred care, a healthy and helpful
organization, patient/client/resident involvement, provider experience, workplace violence
prevention, patient safety, digital health, and health justice. These aims match SAH's
approach. They aim to deliver the safest and greatest care near home while incorporating
iCcare values.
Improvement Project Steps:
To improve SAH's success, there are four steps that are spelled out in the Quality
Improvement Plan (QIP) Narrative for Health Care Organizations in Ontario 2023–2024

Define the improvement goal: The Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) for SAH sets
clear goals and steps that are in line with Ontario's healthcare improvement priorities
and the quality problems that are important in this area. The goal for growth is to
provide the safest and best care as close to home as possible, making sure that the care
principles are part of everyday care.
Analyse current practices: SAH looks at how things are done now by measuring

things better, this research involves gathering information, surveying people, and
talking to patients, their families, and providers.
Design and implement improvements: Based on a study of how things are done now,
SAH plans and carries out changes. This includes projects like making Dyad
relationships work better, teaching and helping medical leaders and department heads,
making it easier to report patient safety incidents, and moving forward with digital
health projects.
Measure success: SAH tracks success in a few ways, such as by asking doctors about
their experiences once a year, sharing incidents of patient safety, and tracking progress
in digital health. The hospital also looks at how quality improvement projects affect
the health and feelings of patients.

Finally, the Sault Area Hospital (SAH) Quality development Program (QIP) promotes
patient-centred development and treatment. From involving patients, families, and caregivers
