Week 7 case study:
Bill M. Jr.
Bill M. Jr. is at risk of coronary heart disease.
He has a multi-generational pattern of
family history of heart attack at young ages.
Bill’s total cholesterol is too high at 256 mg/dl
it should be in the range of <170 mg/dl.
His good cholesterol (HDL) is too low at 28 mg/dl,
the appropriate range is >45 mg/dl.
His blood pressure is elevated.
Bill should maintain a
weight of 175 pounds, but is currently carrying 195 pounds.
A large concern is the use of
smokeless tobacco.
Chewing tobacco and snuff can heighten his heart rate and blood
pressure.
Even though Asplund states smokeless tobacco does not create permanent
changes to the heart rate or blood pressure the stress it places on the heart at the time of
use is damaging (2003).
Many adolescents do not eat the proper foods for maximum nutrition.
Bill, like
many teens, does not care for vegetables, but it is important to know the health benefits
obtained from the vitamins and minerals in veggies.
If eating at a fast food place is
necessary, find he better alternative choices.
Grab a grilled chicken sandwich without mayo
and skip the fries.
Apples are a common option on the fast food menu.
Cut out the sugary
Classic Cokes from the daily routine of diet.
Water intake is vital for the kidneys to flush the
body of toxins.
Without certainty of what pickup basketball entails, it is safe to assume there is little
to no exercise in the daily life of Bill M. Jr.
I suggest Bill take a walk for 45 mins every day.
Play true basketball with a group of friends, it may be needed by several friends as well.
Bill Jr needs to take a clear look at his health age and see that is not early enough to
worry about his health problems.
The habits of this young man, are creating the issue of

health problems now, not the future.
A few minor changes in his life now can prolong his
life much further than his forefathers.
