Local Agencies Summary:

2 The Amarillo Public Health Center helps with vaccines, along with screening for and helping to prevent STD’s they help people without insurance for a small charge. They also provide a Safe Moms’ class for pregnant women and a RESET class that helps people to make healthier choices and to workout. The BSA Behavioral Health provides everything from the first evaluation, to medication, counseling and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for ages 6 and up. Potter County Courthouse offers help with legal matters. The Salvation Army gives assistance to people in need of emergency food, a homeless shelter, help to provide Christmas for families in need, along with a day camp for youth and a club for children to be a part of weekly. The Department of Health and Human Services have the individuals apply for the program that they need from food stamps, to medical, or cash assistance. They also help when a disaster hits an area in the state by giving SNAP benefits to those who apply for emergency help due to the situation, they help with child support, and many different programs for the elderly. In my opinion the Department of Health and Human Services is the most effective in addressing family and community needs since it offers services from birth through senior citizens. While it helps families to get back on their feet it helps for long term care and support care for caregivers of senior citizens. References:
