Head circumference (OFC) percentile (cases C-D) For each case, indicate the growth chart used (WHO, CDC or Fenton Growth Chart for Preterm Infants) and rationale for selection. Hint: For Case D, two growth charts (Fenton Growth Chart and WHO growth chart) are needed to plot the child’s growth. Also, write 2-3 sentences about the child’s physical growth and if the result indicates need for further investigation or concern. A. A six year old girl who is being seen for a yearly physical. CDC Height: 113 cm Between the 50th and 75th percentile Weight: 20 kg 50th percentile This six year old girl seems to be healthy. Still would need to watch for any other signs. B. Sixteen year, 9 month boy being measured during a sports physical. CDC Height: 158 cm Below the 3rd percentile Weight: 50 kg 10th percentile C. Eight month old girl seen at a well-child clinic. CDC Length: 73 cm 95th - 97th percentile. Weight: 8.8 kg 75th percentile OFC: 44 cm Between the 50 and 75th percentile This eight month old girl will be above average for her height. Also will weigh as heavy or more than 75% of the kids in their age group. D. Four month old boy born at 34 weeks gestation. WHO Length: 60.0 cm 5th percentile Weight: 5.1 kg 90th percentile OFC: 39.9 cm 97 For this baby boy, size is a bit of a concern.
