People in the city have different types of occupations such as doctors, paramedics, store owners, teachers, clergies, and water and treatment specialists among others. Are there churches, and what are their denominations? There are churches in the city and the most dominant denomination is the roman catholic church. Select a target population of interest and discuss relevant demographic data and health status indicators for this population group. The target population that I selected for this survey are male individuals between the age of 35-55 ages who live in Industrial Heights in the city. The relevant demographic among the
5 targeted population is that they all showed a high intake of foods with excessive fats and salts in their diets. Most of the individuals targeted in this survey live in the area of Industrial Heights with the highest levels of poverty. Identify significant health concerns for this target population. Include a discussion of significant health concerns in relation to a global health issue. The most significant health concerns for this target population are hypertension and heart disease. Hypertension is one of the leading causes of death around the world. According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.28 billion adults aged 30-79 years around the world have hypertension. According to the WHO, heart diseases (cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are one of the leading causes of death globally, with approximately 17.9 million people dying from the disease every year. The most affected population by heart disease are individuals between the age of 35-64 years old. The age ranges for the two health concerns selected for this survey include the individuals from my target population age bracket. Thus, hypertension and heart diseases are two of the leading health concerns around the world. Apply Healthy People 2030 objectives to the identified population health concerns. According to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, one of the Healthy People 2030 is the reduction of the proportion of adults with hypertension (high Blood Pressure) in the United States (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, n.d). Hypertension is one of the leading causes of death with an annual approximate of 700,000 deaths. Statistics also show that nearly half (48.1%) of adults in the United States have
6 hypertension (Word Health Organization, n.d). Consequently, Healthy People 2030 aims to reduce the number of adults with heart diseases in the United States. Statistics show that one person dies from heart disease every 33 seconds in the United States, resulting in over 695,000 deaths every year (Word Health Organization, n.d). Thus, it is evident hypertension and heart diseases are prevalent in the United States, and the Healthy People 2030 initiative is determined to reduce the prevalence of both diseases to achieve healthy people's vision by 2030. Nursing Judgement Questions. a) Identify one epidemiological event/issue that could potentially occur in an urban environment. One epidemiological event/issue that can happen in an urban environment is an outbreak of infectious diseases such as the Covid-19 virus. Urban areas are usually crowded and an outbreak of an infectious disease will spread quickly impacting many people in the area. b) Identify one vulnerable or underserved population in an urban environment. One vulnerable or underserved population in an urban environment is the poor or people living below the poverty line. Most of these individuals do not have the resources or means to take care of themselves or their families such as healthcare.
