2 Memorial Hermann is an award-winning, non-profit health system owned by the community. Its headquarters is situated in Southeast Texas. Memorial Hermann is all about practicing evidence-based medicine and advancing health. The organization focuses on safety and quality exceptional services for all its patients and general consumers. The organization's mission is to provide top-quality health services and enrich its members with spiritual values (Patri, & Suresh, 2017). Memorial Hermann aims at making healthier communities in this generation and the ones to come. The organization's fundamental values are innovation, diversity, and credibility. Memorial Hermann's organizational structure is both centralized and decentralized to provide accountability. The organizational structure can be symbolized using a pyramid whereby at the bottom is where daily operations take place to at the top where there is a board of directors who make critical decisions, thus making it centralized (Benzer, Charns, Hamdan, Afable, 2017). There are several departments with different functions in the middle of the pyramid. This is also where middle management is, and the heads of departments report to the CEO. This was making it decentralized. The hierarchical structure optimizes the service delivery to its consumers, making it ideal. Memorial Herman is very keen on what is currently happening globally. It recently joined other hospitals in creating awareness about the Covid 19 pandemic. It campaigns to urge communities to put on masks to slow down infection rates. A policy was put in place which demands that the organization must conduct an assessment of the community. It must yield to the demands to advance its vision and mission. A centralized organization is advantageous because the decision-making process is rapid, and its implementation is relatively more straightforward. A decentralized organization is beneficial because it can adapt to change quickly and implement strategies (Azzolini,
3 Ricciardi, & Gray, 2018). A centralized organization is disadvantageous in that top management can make decisions that can be rendered unimplementable by the mid- management. A decentralized organization is disadvantageous in that in a large organization, the coordination of processes becomes cumbersome.
