Describe how health and poverty are interconnected, pick a company
and describe what exactly the company is doing to alleviate poverty
and improve health conditions? How does this make them an SBE?
In order to understand how poverty and health are related, we could start
by recognizing that poverty has a significant impact on health outcomes.
Access to nutritious food, clean water, adequate sanitation, and medical
care can be challenging for those who live in poverty. The cycle of poverty
would be perpetuated by these factors leading to higher rates of hunger,
contagious diseases, and limited access to healthcare.
Procter & Gamble (P&G)
is an illustration of a business that places a
strong emphasis on reducing poverty and enhancing health. Consumer
products giant P&G is well-known for its household names including
Gillette, Pampers, and Tide.
To address the concerns of poverty and poor health, P&G has launched a
number of programs.
P&G Children's Safe Drinking Water (CSDW)
Program
is a significant example. This project intends to supply vulnerable
communities in developing nations with access to clean and safe drinking
water, particularly in Honduras following the hurricane (P&G, 2021). P&G
accomplishes this by dispensing P&G Purifier of Water packets, which are
little water purifying products. These packets include disinfectant
substances that can clean tainted water and make it suitable for drinking.
The CSDW Program has had a big impact by collaborating with government
organizations and humanitarian groups to deliver these water filtration kits.
By ensuring that people have access to clean water, it has lowered the
prevalence of water-borne illnesses, improved overall health results, and
empowered people and communities.
How does this make them an SBE?
A corporation that actively pursues projects that have a good influence on
society is known as an SBE (socially responsible business enterprise). P&G
exemplifies what it means to be a socially responsible business enterprise
by tackling poverty and health challenges at the same time.
P&G is an
example of an SBE because their CSDW Program demonstrates their
dedication to enhancing health conditions, especially in underprivileged
regions.
