Assignment 1: Yes or No - You Be the Judge Graphic Organizer Yes or No: You be the Judge Identify three lifestyle behaviours shown in this commercial that led to Jim’s long-term health concerns or were an attempt to support lifelong health. Behaviour 1: Food is a reward Behaviour 2: Constant eating of junk foods. Behaviour 3: Non-Healthy over Healthy How are these behaviours are shown in the commercial? Whenever Jim was a kid, he would receive something good (like doing great on a test and getting candy). Sometimes he would hide candy/unhealthy foods in his closet/drawer. It’s as if he has to be eating something 24/7. He would prefer junk foods like corndogs and coke over an apple at lunch. How did these behaviours lead to Jim’s health concerns or could they have supported Jim living a healthy life? Regarding birthdays, happy occasions, or an achievement, Jim would receive cake or candy. This shows that he was exposed to junk food at a young age and slowly associated/found happiness in sweets and junk foods. Jim's constant eating is not the problem, the problem is Jim eating junk foods constantly. If he were eating healthy foods constantly then he would not have gone obese and gotten diabetes. In fact, it would have made him 5 times healthier now than he could have ever been. He could have gone vegan or vegetarian. The possibilities of living a long healthy life are endless. But unfortunately, Good fats and nutrients that are essential for your body can be found in healthy foods. Foods that are healthy give your body the power and ability to fight against many ailments. Whereas junk food, on the other hand, is a highly processed food that is heavy in calories. These foods are unhealthy for you. Making healthy decisions helps us in the long run.
these bad habits led to a chain reaction of his body slowly giving up. Who do you think is the intended audience for the messages in this commercial? People of all ages especially parents with no or young children. Is this commercial too shocking for the intended audience or is it appropriate? Why or why not? It's the reality and the reality is brutal. I think this is a perfect example of the decisions we make in life and their consequences. This commercial is not inappropriate, in fact, is a reality check for many parents to prevent their children go through what Jim went through. This ad is also great for people who are going through difficult eating disorders, and addictions.
