2 Reflective Journal Topic 9 Professional Practices The increasing suicide-related behaviors within the community of my practicum have created a dire situation. This has called for suicide prevention programs to improve awareness (van der Burgt et al., 2021). In this week’s materials, I have learned that leadership styles are adopted to determine the readiness of an organization to embrace change. Besides, any investment made must be viewed from the ability of the new practices to account for the outcomes. Stakeholders need accountability for the resources invested. Personal Strengths and Weaknesses As a nurse advocate, I am good at creating an urgency for change and mobilizing followership. I also believe in the need for document reports regarding a change to earn support due to the financial resources accompanying change implementation. Leadership Through this week’s materials and lessons, I have understood that organizational leadership could create a culture where change is supported or resisted. Inquiry into the Current Practices My investigation of the healthcare facility found that change is highly applauded. The organization believes in ongoing change management to improve the safety and quality of care delivered. Organizational characteristics determine the level of EBP support (Gehlawat et al., 2020; Locke et al., 2019). However, considering the budget needed, there is a concern about whether the administration will support the EBP during and post-implementation. Additional Resources The additional resources demanded effective implementation of the evidence-based practice, including leadership and funding. Leadership and Economic Models
3 I have learned this week that various leadership styles and their uniqueness in change management exist. I particularly liked servant and transformational leadership styles. Within the healthcare continuum, they are critical as they support holistic care. Regarding the economic model, I learned about the supply and demand forces in informing change management. I associate the knowledge with the increasing need for a community-based suicide prevention program.
