2 Continuous Quality Improvement Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) is a strategy that you, as a nurse, need to use to enhance patient care and address issues that arise in your profession. CQI may be used in a variety of ways within the nursing profession. One approach is establishing a program to reduce the number of adverse medication reactions. Steps to Employ CQI Determine the cause of the problem: Find the cause, such as more medication errors in the hospital. Obtain relevant information : This may be accomplished by evaluating chart data, conversations with staff members, and examining past event records. Analyze the data obtained : This is to identify patterns, underlying causes, and potential solutions for improving things. This research may assist in determining which types of errors occur more often and the reasons behind their occurrence. Create a growth strategy: This may include implementing technology that scans barcodes, enhancing how prescriptions are paired up, or educating and training staff members more effectively. Implement the strategy: This may include instructing employees on new methods to do tasks, modifying policies and practices, and using new technology to maintain the security of medicines (O'Donnell & Gupta, 2020). Monitor the progress: According to Hill et al., (2020) conducting frequent checks of the data to see whether or not the approaches currently being used are reducing the number of errors .
3 Making alterations: This might involve improving procedures, providing more training or resources, or addressing issues. Sustain the developments : An attitude that cares about safety and holds employees accountable at all times, ongoing training for staff members, and frequent safety inspections are all things that assist with this. In conclusion, by implementing CQI ideas into a program designed to reduce the number of medication errors, nurses may enhance the overall quality of care and the safety of their patients. This illustrates how CQI may be used to address specific issues that arise in the healthcare industry and foster continuous expansion.
