Key questions are used to examine your critical thinking, analysis and writing skills. This assignment serves as a foundation for the first modules in week 1-3, as you develop an understanding and practical application of Health Systems Management. Hence, you will be responsible for all week 1-3 readings, PPT lectures, recordings, announcement details communicated, as well as instructions to undertake analysis and creativity to complete the assignment. You will not be able to complete this assignment without reviewing the information discussed in the collaborative session and in the readings. MacLean, Course Leader p. 2 INFO 6057 Assessment Instructions: Over the past several weeks, you were provided a comprehensive explanation of how hospitals in Ontario work as well as a detailed overview on how to prepare for the billing process and the components associated with the billing process. As a foundation, you learned about the legislation, regulation and information components associated with hospital and billing within a public health system. This lab focuses on your ability to understand the importance of hospitals and the billing process, but also understand this in context of changes such as with increased use of telehealth services (see attached article). Without writing out the questions and instead use subheadings as outlined, prepare a 1000 word written reflection. Ensure that under each of the subheadings that you write in complete sentences and reference all your work. You will want to ensure that you have completed the readings before answering the questions for this written assignment. Moreover, please do NOT use the internet, AI/ChatGPT for this assignment. AI/ChatGPT is forbidden and considered an academic integrity offence. There are two components you are required to examine and analyze that requires critical thinking, and written synthesis for the completion of Lab Assignment 1 for INFO 6057. 1. First component: Is to read/review/understand the lecture materials (PPT, readings) in weeks 1-3 in INFO 6057. 2. Second component: Is to read and understand the attached Journal Article. The Journal Article entitled Completion of Recommended Tests and Referrals in Telehealth vs In-Person Visits is attached in the Lab 1 assessment tab on FOL. Introduction: In the introduction, you will prepare four (4) to five (5) sentences. The first sentence is what you learned in week 1 of the hospital setting and why it is important as a health information management professional to act with “ethical conduct” to support decision making. The second sentence is what you learned from the attached article about the importance of telehealth and how it has benefits and risks to acute services. The third sentence is what you learned about in week 2/3 readings regarding insured services and the billing process and why it is important for Canadian to have telehealth services. The fourth-fifth sentence is highlighting what your written lab will cover and why it is important as it relates to documentation for the patient record. Coverage: From the readings and lesson plans, highlight the comparison of hospital services versus telehealth services noted in the attached article. Argue/explain the purpose and rationale of having a valid provincial health card for the provincial health insurance to cover services received while a patient is in hospital and/or receiving physician services. In your response, be clear on the rules of eligibility and the rationale for these rules. OHIP Non-Eligibility: Outline situations and circumstances where OHIP is NOT used and when other alternatives are used for health coverage instead. In this response, address the circumstance of the coverage and the pros and cons affecting the patient. Patient and Providers Responsibility: Explain what the difference between the patient responsibility and the providers is (e.g. physician, hospital) responsibility as it relates to billing. From what you understood, what would be your recommendation to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to improve accountability for appropriate healthcare spending using the readings as relevancy. Also explain the risks of using telehealth services. Conclusion: In the conclusion, you will provide 4 to five sentences that summarizes your written assignment. The second sentence is the main take away (key learning) from what you learned from the week1 regarding hospitals and the article on increased use of telehealth services. 1 The third sentence is the key take-away of what you learned from what you learned from the week 2 PPT lecture recordings (MacLean, 2022) and the readings of Chapter 10, 11, and 12 (Thompson, 2022) and the article by Zhong et al.
