If an oceanic fishery collapses from over fishing, what are three sorts of actions that might be taken to help the fishery recover? Also use and explain what is meant by the term "commercially extinct". Remember that fish are the only wildlife that are still hunted on a mass commercial basis (go back through history to what happened to the land and bird species that were market hunted during the last century). Also, only a few marine species farm very well for aquaculture. Crabs and lobsters for example do not, they’re cannibalistic it's been tried. Also if you check out Time Magazine from July 2008 there's a guy in Australia who's trying to farm blue fin tuna. Commercially extinct is a term used in relation to fish. Specifically, in detail is means the number(s) of a species in the ocean has decreased so much that investment in fishing for that specific species can’t be caught in high enough numbers to make a profit or be worth the time and effort to sell as goods. Some advantageous ways to help build up a population of over fishing are not easy task as it may only apply to the country/state that enforces the law of the proposed recommendation. However, specifically one could utilize a fishing band on a specific species until the number of that specific species increases dramatically. Such action could take 3 – 4 years to fully benefit from this method or propose a cut back in certain times of the year and mandate the order to protect the remaining small fish populations until they increase in numbers. Finally, one party such as Green Peace could go to the United Nations and propose a national Trade ban on the actual commercially extinct species. This process would attempt to make it difficult to import and export that type of fish within NATO regions. This is way out in left filed but it could at least slow down the fishing, but pirates would have to be monitored and tracked to successfully eliminate all fishing. Reply fish farms. These are farms in name only; they do not “grow” anything but profits. The animals are taken from the wild, held in densely packed enclosures until they are fat enough to be killed. Fish farming has a proven track record of causing many environmental ills. Because the animals are in such tight quarters they are susceptible to diseases. To protect them from this, the “farmers” put high doses of antibiotics into the food that they feed the fish. This then accumulates in the bodies of the animals which are then passed on to the consumer in the form of many cancer causing illnesses.
