Transition to a Low Carbon Society Climate change is a clear human development issue faced by our generation. Lober (2019) indicated that all development is ultimately about the expansion of human potential and the expansion of freedom. Development nurtures human abilities, and because of this, people can make choices and live the lives they want. Climate change will damage human freedom and limit people's choices. The enlightenment norm that human progress will make the future better than the past has also been questioned therefore, we must take certain actions to delay and adapt to the impact of climate change on mankind and we as humans should also consciously start focusing on a low-carbon lifestyle. Firstly, the transportation sector is closely linked to climate change. Lober (2019) indicated that he main cause of recent global warming is the greenhouse gases emitted by humans burning large amounts of fossil fuels. Most of the vehicles running on the streets burn gasoline and diesel, which continuously emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the exhausts. Reducing emissions in the transportation sector can effectively help combat climate change. Of course, vehicles are an indispensable tool in modern society. It cannot be said that vehicles should be taken off the streets in order to deal with climate change but what we can do is to drive as few private cars as possible and rely on public transportation more than ever. A single bus carrying dozens of people will definitely emit less CO2 than dozens of cars on the road. At the same time, taking more buses and driving less cars can help alleviate road congestion. Housing also has a lot to do with climate change. The cement and construction industries are major greenhouse gas emitters and these industries can reduce emissions by improving their processes. Nowadays, the public generally does not build their own houses, but what can be done is to attach importance to heat preservation and insulation during decoration. By installing insulation layers and using more efficient heating or air-conditioning facilities, heat loss can be reduced, thereby reducing heating and energy consumption and emissions of air conditioning.
In addition, there are various kinds of electrical appliances in the rooms of a modern family, so one can choose energy-saving appliances as much as possible when purchasing. When there is sufficient natural light in the room, one can practise keeping indoor lights turned off. These practices not only will help save energy and reduce emissions, but can also reduce your electricity bills and save the cost of electricity. Lober, D.(2019, January 5).
