After reading Chapter 11 “Writing Arguments” in Tompkins (2019), and the following four sites on the discussion thread on technology tools. I have learned over the years that technology tools are a great resource for the classroom. When I was younger technology did not exist, everything was done on paper. Implementing writing technology tools in a weekly lesson plan is a wonderful way to take assessments. Using technology tools can be included in the writing instructional to form mini lesson plans. Technology tools have given teachers many ways to create engaging activities to keep the students involved and interested. “Teachers help students learn to craft arguments in which they state their position, support it with evidence, refute counterarguments, and offer a call to action. Students can benefit from things like mini lessons covering topics such as how to structure an argument, transition words, and mentor texts (Tompkins, 2018).” Using readwritethink.org is great to implement with teacher's lesson plans, assessments, and learning activities. With this tool there are many activities and resources that can be used in the classroom. I use the readwritethink because of all the resources it provides on the website. Using the newsela.com tool is a great tool for formative for writing. Teachers can pick content and activities from the website, and it provides other subjects that can be used with this website. Also, you can receive real time data to collect from the activities provided from the website. Using nytimes.com will help students with resources for stories they are studying. Teachers can get lesson plans from the stories that develop on the website. It also allows students to have opinions, provide videos, and games. Using the scholastic.com tool gives you are variety of resources for reading and writing. This resource has many collections of books that can be used in a mini lesson plan. With Scholastic teachers and students can purchase books for themselves.
