English 106I Baumgartner A NNOTATED B IBLIOGRAPHY A SSIGNMENT Due: Thursday, 3/31 Submission Method: Brightspace P URPOSE The purpose of an annotated bibliography is for you to summarize articles and sources that you have found in the course of your research. G ENERAL F ORMAT Although the topics for research-based papers may differ, the general format for writing an annotated bibliography is the same: Write out the reference to your sources according to APA specifications Underneath each reference, write a short paragraph that specifies the claim that the writer is making, and how you plan to work in the source into your own paper. D IRECTIONS Follow the format for an annotated bibliography. In order to receive full credit, your bibliography should contain at least five entries . Sample Annotated Bibliography De Coster, Karen, and Brad Edmonds. “The Case for Walmart.” Patterns for College Writing: A Rhetorical Reader and Guide . 11 th ed. Ed. Laurie G. Kirszner and Stephen R. Mandell. New York: Bedford, 2010. 631-634. This essay defends Wal-Mart against its critics, and states that Wal-Mart does only what other big companies do in America. I plan to use this essay as an opinion that provides “the other side” of the argument. Featherstone, Liza. “Down and Out in Discount America.” Patterns for College Writing: A Rhetorical Reader and Guide . 11 th ed. Ed. Laurie G. Kirszner and Stephen R. Mandell. New York: Bedford, 2010. 638-645. This is an anti-Walmart essay that states that Wal-Mart exploits its female workers, and that it is a company that knows how to “make money off of poverty.” I agree with Featherstone’s claims and will use this essay to provide background information about why Wal-Mart is bad for America.
