2 According to Whitaker, T. (2012) The thing that I looked at the most was in Chapter 5. Having High Expectations for Whom? While reading this Chapter I realized that I had done something wrong in the classroom. While giving instructions to my students for an assignment that they must complete for the day. While giving instructions to the class on how to complete the assignment. I got distracted by someone coming in the door to ask me a question without finessing explaining the assignment to the class. This is something that I don't allow the students to do. Setting high expectations for the students as well as myself will help the classroom run smoothly. The evidence that led me to change was in Chapter 5 a teacher asked the presenter if she could grade papers while he was presenting. The presenter posted a question to the teacher. Do you feel it would be right for her student to be doing something else while she is teaching? This made me think about what he was saying. The teacher has a job to encourage the students and keep them engaged in learning at all times. The teacher must have the student’s attention from the start of class until the end of class. Students become very distracted when a lot of things are going on inside of the classroom. This range from students having a bad day or just plain distractions that happens on a daily basis. Wong (2018) made teachers think about becoming effective teachers in his book The First Day of School. He also stated in order to be an effective teacher you must set positive expectations for your students. Setting positive expectations makes the students become more successful in the classroom. As a second-year teacher I will make sure that I am giving my students the best learning experience possible.
3 Since COVID the students are just getting back into what a regular classroom looks like. This makes it hard for the teacher to try and get them up to the standards that they need to be in the classroom. I will make my classroom fun and inviting by providing the students with high level learning activities. We live in a world where technology is taking over. With that being said I will provide my students with more computer-based activities also. If a student is not school he will be allowed to look on Google Classroom to complete the missing assignments. Whitaker, T. (2012) stated in Chapter 5 that we must set high expectations for our students but have higher expectations for ourselves. The teacher must insure that learning in the classroom. Teachers must come up with ways to keep the students engaged in learning. We must make learning fun and exciting and come up with different activities to keep the students eager to learn. Holding both parties accountable for the learning process will make the year much better.
