Descriptive Essay : Words, Words
Words? What is the meaning of words? Through someone's aspect, it could be considered as the
most efficient communicating tool of human being. On the other hand, some people may treat it as
an irreplaceable expression of their emotion. Objectively speaking, "words" could definitely be
concluded in both ways above, but in my opinion, using words is a privilege and honor. I use words
to gain knowledge and words give me all kinds of possibilities of understanding new stuff when I
intend to enhance my personal abilities.
–When do you like words; when not? Mostly, words represents simple language communication and
stand for a carrier of people's emotion. For example, I felt very upset and frustrated when I got a few
deny letters from some universities I applied in the last year of my high school. During that time,
every single word from these letters turned to be sharp and dreadful. However, when I have a chat
with my old friends, I usually enjoy every moment of texting and also enjoy every word I type
during those chats. In general, whether I like or dislike some certain words, it is not only depends on
words itself, but also depends on the words–using in its different situations.
–What's easy; what's not? Personally, I think poems and some traditional literatures are very hard for
me. In contrast, I feel easy when I read novels and scientific papers.
–Who are you as a reader, writer, thinker, speaker, listener?
– If you're lucky enough to think, read, hear, write in

Campus Descriptive Essay
West Virginia University has hands down the most gorgeous campus I have ever seen. Every
morning I would wake up knowing that I have the privilege of attending a good school with a
breathtakingly beautiful campus. I was gradually awoken by the warm rays of sunlight filtering into
my room like a gentle wake up call. I got up to look out the window and I saw my fellow classmates
walking to class and going about their days. Stretching and yawning I prepare myself for the day. I
cannot help but to think that today is going to be a good day
. As I stepped outside for the first time I
felt the cool breeze gently blowing between the buildings, giving everyone it touches a breath of
fresh air. Strolling through campus, I stopped for a minute to admire how the sun was shining down
on like a spotlight on all the beautiful blue and gold flowers. The landscapers worked hard planting
the flowers of the most royal of blues and the perfect shade of golden yellow. Walking further down
the hill I saw the familiar "flying dub v" on every passing persons clothing. Most of my classmates
were in a rush to get to class, but I took my time just absorbing my surroundings. A strong breeze
carried the scent of freshly cut grass to my nose and embraced me as I continued my journey to
class. Passing several students on my way, nodding my head in acknowledgement, a few familiar
faces make eye contact and smile. The weather that day was perfect, not too hot, but

Descriptive Essay About A Festival
My excitement was almost palpable as I drove past Lake Okeechobee, watching sunlight bounce
reflectively off the massive body of water. My 6 best friends and I were moments away from
entering into the majestic festival land. Entering the festival grounds, we where bursting with
excitement and energy, partly because we were sitting still in a cramped car for 2 hours. The car was
moving only several inches per minute, but as the car took covered more territory, so did my
eagerness. There were only a couple of feet distancing our car from the next; everyone else was as
enthusiastic as I. I saw smiles and excitement and heard electronic music in the background, all
while sitting and waiting in a vehicle. It can to my realization that this was the first time I was
surrounded by a whole spectrum of unique people. Some attendees looked like they had just stepped
out of a Madonna music video, with neon colored clothes and asymmetrical patters; others wore
shorts and a tank top. However, there were two similarities among us: we came to dance to each
beat of the music and we all suffered from the humid, swampy, hot weather.
Although my friends and I wanted to park the car and head straight to the festival
, we had some
housekeeping to do. Three tents and a camp area later, we were ready to start dancing to the
electronic music and enjoying our three day festival weekend. The summer heat was unbearable, as
the humidity engulfed the air and the sunrays kept reluctantly burning our

Descriptive Essay Final The downtown metropolis can be a complex place, and some may need to
become accustomed to it. It is Five O' Clock in the afternoon. The sun is starting to drag itself lower,
dimming the landscape, leaving a majestic orange on the horizon. The towering structures above
leave enormous shadows on the people below. Car horns ring and sirens pulse, as the people make
haste towards there destinations, rushing aggressively as if though it is a race. The end of the work
day has just began. The craze is unique from anywhere else. An endless flow of people and vehicles

Lush, green trees are everywhere. Every house and small business seems to have one or two of
them. The car makes it's way down a small street, with old fashioned houses. The car comes to a halt
in front of a beautiful tan house. The house feels cozy. The tan painted planks of wood stack up until
they reach the charcoal shingles of the rooftop. Two enormous windows are on the front of the
house, with fine, white curtains that can be seen hanging from them on the other side. On the left
side of a house there is a large chimney, which gives the house a traditional look with it's brown and
red bricks. In the front yard of the house there is a smooth, clean concrete walkway to the front door,
surrounded by many bushes, and flowers; trimmed perfectly. This house is well kept, and it stands
out as a beauty in the neighborhood. The man walks up his paved walkway, and into the house
through a large white door, with four small windows on it, and a cross like pattern beneath them.
The doors gives of the look as if it is an entryway to heaven. The house is peaceful. Only the birds
chirping in the trees can be heard. And as the man enters his house excited children raise there
voices, "Daddy Daddy!". This family man is

Descriptive Essay
It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind
in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You spend
more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst
my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving
, I saw a car coming rapidly
around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the
intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made
me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy
attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are

One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have
you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not
officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver
, David Chrisenger,
is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and
driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by
the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for
your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it."
The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated
my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious about what you
have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking and
driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big
deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I
encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive
again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or
call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a

Filled with excitement and joy I began to fill my suitcase, overloading with clothing that I most

Descriptive Essay On A Trip
The art studies–at–large trip has been a once in a lifetime trip. From a twenty–four hour plane trip
with a stop in Chicago and time zone change, it has been an exhausting yet enjoyable time running
around with my classmates in the airport. Being in a different country and experiencing a new
culture first hand was astonishing and gave me a new outlook of the beauties in the world. From
Montone, Florence
, Venice, and Rome I had the ultimate trip in Italy
. The food, language, and
culture were different from what I was used to but it was worth the experience. I was not fond of
drinking wine with every dinner though the wine was delicious. I had the best pastas, tiramisus, and
coffees while I was in Italy. The art was beautiful; it was breathtaking to see how many free
artworks was there for the public. After being in Italy for about a month I can see why people are
attracted and want to live in Italy. Montone is a beautiful, peaceful, and friendly town. I enjoyed the
walk to town, the covenant, Aries Café, the tavern restaurant, and the town's people. I had the best
cappuccino and coffee at Aries and I loved every dish I ate at the tavern restaurant. The view from
the covenant was beautiful and works perfectly for a painting. Getting around town was easy with
everyone being so nice and helpful. The piazza was a great place to hang out because of friendly the
environment was and it was the main spot in town where everyone stayed. Getting a chance to draw

Descriptive And Prescriptive Grammar
Introduction In this essay I will discuss the definition of the concept grammar in linguistic science
and thee attitude teachers may have towards such a conceptualization of what grammar is. I will go
into detail by explaining perspective and descriptive grammar. Descriptive Grammar The first thing
that I will be discussing is the definition of descriptive grammar. A descriptive grammar is a set of
rules about language based on how it is actually used. It can relate with a prescriptive grammar,
which is a set of rules based on how people think language should be used. Specialists in descriptive
grammar (linguists) examine the principles and patterns that underlie the use of words, phrases,
clauses, and sentences. In contrast, prescriptive

Examples of prescriptive grammar rules can be found in practically every guide to "good" language
usage, grammar rule book, or grammar guide. Teacher's attitude towards grammar Grammar has
always been an important issue in second and foreign language learning and teaching. Some hold
the view that grammar is not essential for second/foreign language learning and therefore have a
'zero position' regarding grammar teaching. On the other hand, some view that grammar is necessary
for second/foreign language learning. There is often confusion between what is prescriptively
correct under the rules of standard English grammar within different varieties, which results in
various options for classroom grammar teaching for second language learners. In the classroom
relating to descriptive grammar learners can be encouraged to move away from a prescriptive
approach to grammar by using a guided discovery in which they look for examples of variations in
use in authentic texts. These examples can be compared to prescriptive rules in order to decide if
they are useful or

Descriptive Essay On A Trip To The City
The feeling of my breakfast trying to see the outside world again, combined with the earthquake like
turbulence made me more than ready to hop off the plane. It was ten in the morning and I couldn't
wait any longer to begin the start of a new adventure. Seven months had passed since my mother
announced that the family was going to take a trip to one of the most iconic cities in America. We
had looked up practically every single tourist attraction that New York city had to offer. After weeks
of arguing we booked a trip with a tour guide who would take us all around the city in a day. The
advertisement said we would be taking a trip to Queens, Manhattan, and to the Statue of Liberty.
The plane finally landed and it was time to explore and see what the "Big Apple" had to offer.
Heading out of our terminal, we were greeted by our tour guide, who had a face whiter than snow
and a gigantic smile. I walked into the bus and greeted the strangers that were going to accompany
us. As the bus traveled along the road leading to our destination, I noticed how different New York
City was from my hometown of Houston, Texas. Everything in the "Big Apple" felt more modern,
and there was a much different, possibly busier aura around the people living there. As I
contemplated about the differences, our tour guide had stopped at our first destination, the
Chinatown of Queens, New York. Walking out of the bus, I immediately felt immersed into the
community. It was as if everyone in the

Descriptive Essay On Poverty
People are dying every minute because of this terrible disease. No antidotes have been found to
eliminate it. Poverty is like an epidemic with no antidote affecting the entire world. It has already
killed billions of people, and will continue killing unless we do something to stop it. Have you ever
thought what living in poverty is like? Seeing a shocking picture in which people were trying to
survive gave me a whole different perspective. That image showed me one of the poorest areas of
the planet where people were living under despicable conditions. They were working in sweatshops,
collecting garbage and living in broken down huts in order to survive. A polluted river passes across
from their humble homes, causing incomparable complication to their lives. I could observe the
terrible conditions in which this people are working, fishing and collecting garbage. Not only
pollution is shown in this photo, above of the photograph a bridge could be observed. I imagine the
noise, and the dust that this little detail brings to their lives. That photograph made me feel angry at
politicians because they could do a better job helping the needy. Since they were almost dying, I felt
sad for the circumstances they live in. A sense of admiration for the way they are able to survive,
gave me the strength to fight against this global scourge. The author of this picture is trying to
convey a message, showing us poverty in all its faces and inviting us to be part of his fight against

Descriptive Essay About Myself
I find it extremely tough to talk about myself and my personal traits. In order for me to dIscuss who
I am in an accurate manner then I must provide some basic background information on myself and
talk about the Environment I grew up in. This way people can get a better understanding of why I
am the way I am. My Background is so essential In making me myself because If I had been born
under any different circumstances or grew up any differently I would be a different person than I am
today. I was born in Aberdeen Scotland but raised in Fort Bend County Texas. Aberdeen and Fort
Bend both have great opportunities but differ in many ways. One way in which they differ is that

also opened my mind to new ideas. For example, in school when we work in group projects we
collaborate and communicate with people who think differently than us then work together to figure
out whose ideas will work the best and how to improve them.
Another factor that plays a part in why I am shaped how I am is my family's economic
circumstances. I have always had access to anything I needed and for that I have extreme gratitude
because I know some people have a lot of difficulty in life. Since I was born into a family with such
good economic circumstances I have been lucky to have lots of opportunities. One Opportunity I
had as a child was participating in taekwondo. I did taekwondo until I reached a blackbelt which
took years of hardwork and dedication. I had to memorize forms, Spar with other competitors and
break boards in order to continue to move up to the next level. Taekwondo also helped keep me in
good shape and fit when I was younger. Another Opportunity I am grateful for is the skill of playing
the piano. At first I was not all that enthusiastic about playing it but my parents has signed me up

Descriptive Essay About My Favorite Place
As a child, people will always remember certain destinations that stick with them that made a good
impression. I have a place that not only made a good impression, it changed me. It made me think
off all the things in life people take for granted; places, people, activates. This place brought all
though special things in life to one place where I can enjoy them all at the same time. The Oregon
coast. Traveling there, as a kid was always special. Waking up early in the morning and driving the
long trip there, going through forests, valleys, and cities. The Oregon coast is such a broad place to

Its cold, windy, and sunny all at the same time. The beach stretches for miles seeming endless, until
it reaches a tall cliff with waves crashing against it. The sun shines down on the moisture in the air
creating a "sparkling" affect to add to the view. In some spots on the coast giant rock formations
stick out of the water, creating a question on how they formed there. Sea creatures dot the sand
everywhere. Walking the beach with sand between your toes is and not a worry in your mind is one
of the best feelings. If you time it right early in the mornings and late in the night low tide takes
place and you can find sand dollars and unique shells. Beautiful houses and hotels line the beach all
with the same withered look they all strive to have, and balconies on every place to capture the view.
This destination is such an important place to Oregonians because its such a magical place. It
transports you into a different dimension where there are no other places like it. You cannot be one
the beach without a smile on your face, it's near impossible to be in a gloomy mood when there.
Mainly magical because you can escape there with family and friends with many opportunities to try
to experience new or traditional things. Like having a fire on a beach roasting s'mores with family
and friends, or trying weird sea creature at a restaurant. The Oregon Coast will always hold a spot
near to my heart. I can't wait for

Descriptive Essay On The Amusement Park
It was supposed to be the best day ever. I was going to the amusement park with my family for the
first time that summer. My mother, sister and I, just like years before. No twelve year old loves
anything more than spending a day riding around in high flying roller coasters, indulging in endless
amounts of cotton candy and failing to successfully throw rings onto bottle tops. But something
didn't feel right that morning. Something didn't feel the same as the years before. As we entered the
park my heart was pounding out of my chest with excitement. What's the biggest ride I can go on?
Where are all the basketball games? These thoughts were racing through my mind as I was taking in
the colossal roller coasters and breathing in the tantalizing aroma of fried food. Throughout the
summer my friends told me tales of this new roller coaster that the park had just installed. "The
Goliath" they called it. It was supposed to be the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the park with the
most corkscrews and twists than any ride I'd ever seen before. This had to be the first ride we went
on. The Goliath was impossible to miss. Neon green tracks with blue cabins. We waited in line for
hours. I could feel the emotion in the air almost as if everyone was ready to scream out in pure
excitement and anxiousness. It was finally our turn to get on. My sister sat in the cabin behind me
while my mom and I sat in the front. The ride began to take off and the adrenaline poured through
my body. I don't remember much from the actual ride itself, but I vividly remembered what
followed. Getting off the ride I was full of excitement, thinking to myself "I need to go at least one
more time". I turned to my mother, looking to bribe her into another ride until she couldn't refuse.
But what I saw on her face was a look of complete shock. "I think I broke my leg" she said in a tone
I had never heard her use in my life before. I was stunned. I looked down at her legs and didn't see
anything unusual. She attempted to get out of the ride and limped away. The strongest woman I had
ever met in my life was now broken and I couldn't do anything to help her. "Someone help my
mom" I cried out in desperation, looking for someone to come over

Descriptive Essay On A Fire
Attributes of Fire
It was a bright and sunny day in mid–July, not a cloud in sight. I could feel the intense heat against
the back of my neck as I rode my bike along a remote mountain trail with my friend entail. We were
heading back towards the campgrounds after a long day of fun and adventure. As the beautiful sun
set across the horizon I realized that with the setting of the sun came the end to a long day full of
energy and livelihood. The very sun that made me sweat earlier that day gave me the the ability to
see and experience my surroundings. The light from the sun granted me the ability to see where I
was going on my bike, as it allows everyone to go about their daily lives with little to no thought
whatsoever.
After the sun had set my stomach began to rumble, signalling that dinner time was fast approaching.
That night we made a campfire and whipped up some good ol' fashion hot dogs. As I was eating my
hot dog I wondered, why is it that meat must be cooked? Looking at it now, I know that it has to do
with the fact that food is easier to digest when cooked and that humans have evolved to the point
where we need cooked food in order to gain more energy. As hours passed by the sunny summer day
became a sheer cold night. The only thing that was keeping all of us warm was the heat being
emitted from the campfire. The campfire brought the whole family together. Many scary as well as
funny stories were told that night. It was not until years later that I realized that a

More than many other types of essays, descriptive essays strive to create a deeply involved and
vivid experience for the reader. Great descriptive essays achieve this affect not through facts and
statistics but by using detailed observations and descriptions.
What do you want to describe?
As you get started on your descriptive essay, it's important for you to identify exactly what you want
to describe. Often, a descriptive essay will focus on portraying one of the following: a person a
place a memory an experience an object
Ultimately, whatever you can perceive or experience can be the focus of your descriptive writing

Descriptive Essay About Memories
Our lives are filled with many favorable memories, but only the best ones are formed when we gain
something from them. A great memory that I have is when I went to my first concert in Richmond
with my friend, Ciana, in March of 2017. This concert is one of my best memories because it taught
me how fun life can be, no matter how wild it may become.
My friend and I aren't wild people, but we do like to randomly plan crazy things. Ciana randomly
messaged me one month before and asked if I wanted to go see this band in March. With a why not
attitude, I agreed to go. I wasn't dying to see the band live, but I did enjoy their music. There was
three other bands playing at that concert, but I wasn't familiar with any of them. Becoming

To our left, there were stands where you could buy shirts. Since they weren't busy, we decided to
give the tall vender forty bucks for two of the band's tour t–shirts. It was a quick interaction, so we
still had plenty of time left. We figured we would go ahead and wait in the medium sized crowd.
The only part of the room that was well lit, was the stage
. As we patiently waited, the variety of
bright colors danced across the stage. Slowly, more people came in and filled the crowd area in the
room. The stage and band equipment was set up by these men who paced across the stage. As we
waited for what seemed like eternity, time slowly stretched like finely rolled out dough. Finally, the
lights went out, and the first band came on stage.
The entire crowd screamed as loud as they can. The lights came back on and the first band comes
out. As we are enjoying the music we're listening to, the singer asks the crowd to make a moshpit.
Instantly, everybody is pushing to the perimeters of the crowd area in order to make a clear space.
Forming right next to where my friend and I are standing, the mosh pit errupted. It was very rough
to stand on the outer edge of the moshpit, but thankfully, this tall guy was our savior as he blocked
us from the tornado of bodies within the moshpit. Slowly, we pushed ourselves away from the
moshpit and towards the stage. At this point, my arm had already formed a bruise from the

doing that– eavesdropping. I got up, whispering goodbye to the sand as I slipped on my shoes and
jacket. I trudged back to the town. Tall, black fences surrounded it. The place was mostly isolated.
The closest town was quite a walk, around a kilometer away. Guards were posted at the fence, but
they mostly just played games and texted on their phones. The security was quite good in my town.
The guard noticed me as I walked up to him. "Your ID?" he asked, glancing up from his device.
Everyone in the town had a specific ID. You had to be of the town to get in. It was possible to invite
guests from other towns by being with them when they came to the gates, but the town in general
was not very happy to take visitors. "Welcome to Watsberg, again." The guard opened the gates and
I slowly walked to my destination. The sinister–looking houses glared at me. I pulled my jacket
tighter. Not a single human being was outside. That didn't take into consideration all the other
animals living in the town. Rats scampered around the deserted streets and dogs loped. Nobody
went outside at one o'clock.

Descriptive Essay On A Trip To The Mountains
I have known a place tucked away in the Blue Ridge mountains for a majority of my life. My family
and I take an hour and a half long drive up to the mountains almost every weekend. Although the
drive is always tiring, the final destination is always worth the trip. Personally, my family calls this
place a second home. As a result of the cabin, my appreciation for nature grew and I started to learn
the path to gaining a more peaceful, enjoyable approach to life. Up in these mountains is a cabin: a
sanctuary built for relaxation. As I approach the cabin, I'm immediately greeted by a gentle breeze
that makes my cheeks redden and my smile grow. The breeze continues to blow and the trees sway
slightly to produce a song created from the swaying of the Evergreen trees that rub against each
other, and the leaves sliding across the dry ground. On lucky days , the bellowing whistle of the train
blows greets us and combines with the sound of the wind to create the music of fall in the
mountains. Stopping in my tracks, I look around in awe to see all of the colors under the sun mixing
together in the trees to form the perfect mixture of bright yellows, wine colored reds, golden
browns, pale greens, and dull or extravagant oranges. Ordinarily, a slight mist will ascend from the
river and form at the top of the mountain, giving it a mystical appearance that came right out of a
book. This mist slowly fogs my glasses as the cold air meets my flushed skin; however, I don't
remove my

Descriptive Essay
There's no one to talk to... I hate this place. The smell, the silence, the way that time hangs in the air
catalyses my irritation. I scream yet no one hears. I question but no one answers. I'm just waiting for
the day I die and no one finds me. I guess I won't be there to enjoy that.
Chester, the cat, ambles his way through the hallway. I can hear the scratching of his paws on the
front of the mahogany door which stands imposingly like a body guard. The cold winter chill
swivels in the air, mocking and taunting me with its icy fangs. Night is approaching. I can sense that
it is going to be one of those nights where the clouds hang oppressively low, shrouding the moon
beneath their black drapes. However I know that every now and then she would emerge in full
beauty, casting light over this gothic castle. Chester continues to scratch at the door; his behaviour
has become increasingly agitated over the past few weeks. I guess I'm not the only one here which
the silence is driving increasingly insane.
The old earthen tiles tessellate in endless uniformity throughout the hallway in a black white
fashion. The chandeliers hang from the ceiling; each piece of glassware hangs like a dagger on the
piece of a fragile thread, waiting to fall on the unfortunate victim. As I stare at the swaying knives,
daring one to fall, sudden toll of a distant bell reverberates through the hallway, sending a
shockwave that ripples through me. I need to escape. These cold, lifeless tiles hurt me feet as I begin
to run with increasing frustration. My hands begin to clench, as my heart beats harder and louder.
All of a sudden however I stop. The golden handle of the front door stands ajar, tempting me to open
it to unlock the realms of the open world. However, just as I touch the knob, my hands freeze in fear.
What if I get caught? I'm not allowed to go outside in the dark. I don't want to get in trouble. Biting
on my nails as the sweat begins to drop from my face, I decide to leave.
Just as I leave Chester scurries his way through the marginally open door, following me with tireless
diligence. The warmth of the mud between my toes instantly pervades my spirit as I walk through
the lush green country side. The twilight sky sparkles,
