First, let's explain compare and contrast:
When we compare, we show our readers a subject's similarities.
When we contrast, we show our readers a subject's differences.
Compare and Contrast essays are learning–process essays. You learn about your subject as you
gather and organize information.
This type of essay takes a bit of organization, and it's this organizational process, this gathering of
facts, that helps you learn as you go.
You will create lists of qualities or traits that each of your subjects has, and as you do this, you will
discover insights to your subject that, at first glance, you may not have realized were there.
It's like buying a new shirt. The moment you spread it out on

And you will either compare or contrast, not both. Be careful, sometimes going point by point can
make your writing sound tedious and repetitive. Watch your language and transition words. Use
several points at a time.
Ending: As in the argumentative essay, bring it all together. Allow your ending to go back to your
thesis. Use the transitional words on the next page to help your paper's coherence. Transitions and
other connecting words and connecting sentences should be used throughout.
Remember: There are no hard and fast rules as to how many comparisons or contrasts you should
offer. For a thorough look into your subject, you must offer enough comparisons or contrasts or both
to make a valid statement.

Compare and Contrast Essay By definition; love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for
another person. Love can be interrupted in many ways. Were we ever taught love or is it just a
natural feeling towards a person? Some say you'll know the meaning of love when you fall in love,
yet some don't believe in love at all.
The sculpture "LOVE" created by Robert Indiana and the sculpture "The Kiss" made by Auguste
Rodin both share some of the same meanings behind the art work (Indianapolis Museum of Art)
(Rodin's The Kiss Sculpture). A major similarity between the two is love; which attracts and speaks

This piece is also an abstract form of art and more modern the color is red and has a feeling of
happiness and joy and you have the urge to feel love just by seeing it so large and up front. "LOVE"
has always been placed out in the open demanding attention from a lot of people to see. "The Kiss"
is more of a classic form of art and has been placed in more private areas. Although it has a
distressing grey color "The Kiss" has more depth; the feeling of intimacy is strong and makes a
statement.
There are both similarities and differences in "The Kiss" and "LOVE". The emotion and meaning
behind both are incredible, it shows and understands the meanings of love, lust, joy, and intimacy.
Love can either be spelt out or expressed by action and is what both pieces show. Love can be
interrupted in many ways, but there always has to be a kiss in love.

empires unique from the each other, there are still resemblances. Despite the fact that both Persia
and China were great empires in two different regions, their governing methods coincide in the
systems of organization and basic infrastructures; but they differed greatly in the beliefs of
government and people. As both of these empires had considerable amounts of land that they ruled
over, the method of organizing their lands held great importance to effectively ruling the vast lands

Skinner's reinforcement experiments conducted on rats showed the principles of operant
conditioning. While working with rats, Skinner would place them in a Skinner box with a lever
attached to a feeding tube. After multiple trials, rats learned the connection between the lever and
food, and started to spend more time in the box procuring food than performing any other action. He
used positive reinforcement, and negative reinforcement to produce or inhibit specific target
behaviors. Therefore, if a specific behavior is reinforced then the probability of that behavior
occurring again is increased. Based on Skinner's view, this theory can be applied to learning because
learning is nothing more than a change in behavior. Operant conditioning encourages positive
reinforcement, which can be applied in the classroom environment to get the good behavior you
want and need from students. One of the ways of reinforcing a student's behavior is through praise.
Also teachers can build operant conditioning techniques into their lesson plans to teach children
possible skills as well as good behaviors. For example: to give a smiley face, or motivational stamps

A Comparison of Classic Literature These two classic pieces of literature are the basis of modern
day entertainment. Both have been uniquely used in remakes for many modern day movies and
television shows. Before the book The Hunger Games came the novel Lord of the Flies written by
William Golding in 1954, when a group of boys are stranded on an island after taking part in an
aircraft crash. The group of young boys aged six to twelve find themselves stranded on an island
without any adults. The boys scramble to find the civilization within them to live however long they
need to survive on this island. As time goes on, the boys lose their civility, become savage like, and
stray a couple of their own because of that. In the end, their bodies

In Lord of the Flies, The setting and situations are that the island is equivalently symbolic as to say
there is no civilization, that there are no rules, and the mindset of being isolated. On the island, the
boys wish to make a society of civilization. As the story progresses, the boys begin to lose their hold
on to civility and become savage. As their barbarism builds up, they also start to forget that they
need rules to survive in a community of young boys who have very little experience with having to
live on their own. Jack reminds the boys that there is still hope for survival by stating, "I agree with
Ralph. We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English; and the
English are best at everything" (Golding, 2). Adults are also very key to maintaining a just society
and this is justified when Ralph says, "No grown–ups" (Golding, 2), which means they will not have
such a straight forward, or right community with rules as they would have back home. Another
situation that the boys run in to is that they think they cannot get in trouble because of there being no
rules when really they can run into trouble under their own consequences. The boys in the beginning
were unaware of what else was on the island with them. As soon as the beastie became part of the
story, all of their theories of being alone had left them, and they believed there was a dark thing on
the island with them. In "

", the setting and situations are the same as the
novels but have been presented differently. The island representing no civilization is used likely in
this short story but rather than moving up to this situation, it starts in the beginning of the story
because the whole time on the island, was never any civility. On Zaroff's island, there is no law, nor

Contrasting Ancient Civilizations Most people believe that all ancient civilizations were the same:
they all lived with a steadfast loyalty to their one and only king that ruled all of the lands,
civilizations only achievements were monumental buildings, and they vacuously attacked
neighboring societies to gain more land for millennia. While some of this knowledge is true to an
extent, civilizations accomplished an abundance more than some realize. Some fail to register that
early civilizations are unique from each other. Egypt and Mesopotamia were two distinct

The Egyptians viewed the afterlife as a happy place filled with food and the gods. In contrast, the
Mesopotamians viewed the afterlife as a place of horror and fear. The vital cause for the differences
of viewpoints in the afterlife is the River they depended on. Both civilizations saw the afterlife as an
extension of their current life. With this being said, the Nile was giving and gave them lots of water
along with silt, which was crucial for the survival of their crops. In turn, the Egyptians perspective
on the afterlife was gracious. Conversely, the Mesopotamians depended on the Tigris and Euphrates
rivers. While it did bless them with fresh water, on occasions, the river would grow violent and
cause a catastrophic amount of damage to their homes and crops. Since they also viewed their
afterlife as an extension to their current lives, they saw it as a dark and horrible place that wasn't
wanted. However, both civilizations accomplished achievements through religion and for other
reasons. The last way Egyptians and Mesopotamian civilizations diverge and converge with each
other is because of their accomplishments. They both accomplished mathematics, medicine,
architecture of their structures dedicated to their gods, and calendars. Both probably accomplished
these specific tasks because each either helped them survive or helped them religious wise. One

Compare
Racism, discrimination and degradation faced by Blacks and other ethnic minorities under the
apartheid system was not unlike the segregation and intimidation faced by African–Americans in the
Jim Crow south. Jim Crow system of segregation that kept Blacks from fully participating in public
and civic activities and relegated African–Americans to substandard conditions at work, school and
even in the home. Blacks in South Africa were under the clutches of an overt, national policy of
racism and segregation implemented by the country's highest level of government. Civil and human
rights abuses of Blacks in South Africa at the hand of the country's white minority occurred long
before apartheid officially began, but the system's official start brought strict, sweeping laws such as
the rule that all persons in South Africa to be categorized as white, Black, colored and Indian,
without exception. Like in the U.S. during Jim Crow, Blacks and whites were not allowed to marry
and sexual relations between members of different races was a criminal offense.

Tale Of Two Cities Compare And Contrast Essay
In looking at the novel, A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, and the Masterpiece
Theater film version, produced in 1989, three similarities between the two can be found to include
the characterization of Dr. Manette, the trial of Charles Darnay in London, and the history of
Madame Defarge. The novel and film, A Tale of Two Cities
, follow the characters in London and
Paris in the midst of the time during and leading up to the French Revolution. Throughout the story,
there are many aspects that are present in both the novel and the film, those of which vary in type,
from characters to events to setting. Wherefore, three of the parallels present in the novel and film,
A Tale of Two Cities, are the portrayal of Dr. Manette, Darnay's trial in London, and Madame
Defarge's backstory. One way in which the novel and the film are similar is the way in which Dr.
