Materials & Tools Required : #14/2 and #14/3 NMD90 Cable (Romex) Linesmen Pliers Lamp Holder Diagonal Pliers 1/2” Connectors for Romex Needle-nose Pliers Device Boxes Screwdrivers (Various) Octagonal Box Wire Strippers 120 V Three-way Switches Wire Nuts (Marrettes) 120 V Four-way Switch Light Bulb 120V 15A Breaker Deck Screws NOTE: Do not install any improper or damaged components. Wiring must be performed to meet current electrical code requirements. Installation Instructions : Install NMD from breaker panel to the required outlet boxes. Be sure to install according to the CEC rules. i.e., points of support, correct length of wire in box). Connect switches and light. Connect to panel with correct size breaker. Have instructor review finished connections. Instructor will then “Power On” completed circuit to allow for circuit testing. Answer all questions for this lab listed below.
Page 2 of 3 Questions : State the CEC Rule number if the code book is used. 1. What is the minimum bending radius for armoured cable? According to the Canadian Electric Code Rule 12-614 (1) the radius of the curve of the inner edge of the bends shall be at least 6 times the external diameter of the armoured cable. 2. To prevent abrasion or cutting by the sharp edges of armour, the CEC requires that the conductor’s insulation be protected by the use of what device? According to CEC Rule 12-610 (1)(a) an insulating bushing or equivalent protection is installed between the conductors and the armour to prevent abrasion of cutting by the sharp edges of the armour 3. What are the CEC rule numbers for armoured cable when running of cable between boxes, etc? Rule 12-618 tells us about the armoured cable when running of cable between boxes, fitting, etc. 4. What are “traveler wires” when using 3 way switching. The traveller wires are the wires used to connect two 3-way switches in a circuit which allows to control of the same light fixture from different locations. The current will flow from at least 1 traveller wire in a 3-way switch out of two travelling wires. 5. How many 3 and 4 way switches are required to control a light from 3 locations? To control a light from 3 different locations we need two 3-way switches and one 4- way switch.
