Communication and why it is important to study it?
Communication involves sharing information through both verbal and non-verbal methods. It is
crucial in creating favorable professional relationships, whether you're giving a presentation,
working together, discussing concerns with a manager, or verifying project specifics with a
customer. Besides speaking and listening, non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and tone of
voice are also significant factors in communication.
Presentation of the model In this scenario, a technical support agent and an end-user are having a conversation regarding recurring issues on the user's screen that have not been resolved. To resolve the problem, the technical support agent will remotely access the user's computer. This approach 2
enables both parties to efficiently tackle the issue, ensuring the end-user can continue with their work.
How the model reflects the communication process
The interactive communication model is a two-way system that incorporates feedback. It is commonly used in internet-based and mediated communication, such as telephone conversations and letters. However, the Osgood-Schramm Model, which is a circular model that describes interpersonal, synchronous communication, may not be suitable for other types of communication. The principles of the interactive communication model include circular communication, equal and reciprocal engagement, message interpretation, and a three-step process of encoding, decoding, and interpreting. Both parties equally encode and decode messages, and the interpreter is responsible for understanding the message. There is no differentiation between sender and receiver in this model.
Acknowledgment of the five characteristics of communication. To be a good communicator in both our personal and professional lives, we need to develop the ability to clearly share information, with empathy and understanding.
Connection
Effective communicators can connect with their audience in different ways to ensure that their listeners comprehend the topic at hand. One way is by using nonverbal cues such as eye contact to engage and demonstrate the audience's importance. Additionally, verbal techniques like anecdotes can further connect with the audience and demonstrate an understanding of the 3
topic. By connecting with the audience, the speech becomes more significant to them and encourages them to listen attentively.
Listening
In jobs that involve direct communication with an audience, such as teaching or sales, active and attentive listening is an important trait to possess. By listening well, you can fully comprehend the concerns and queries of your audience, which enables you to give useful answers and solutions. Experienced communicators often encourage questions and comments during speeches or presentations and refrain from interrupting their audience to practice good listening skills.
Two or More Persons
Communication requires at least two individuals as a single person cannot have an exchange of ideas with themselves. A listener is needed to receive the ideas, thus there must be a sender of information and a receiver, making a minimum of two people involved in communication.
Empathy
Empathy, the ability to understand the needs and situations of others, is a crucial social skill. It requires putting oneself in another person's shoes. To display empathy, phrases like "I understand what you're saying" or "I understand your situation" can be used. Even if we don't share the same opinion with colleagues, employees, or friends, being empathetic can aid in more effective communication.

Instead of opting for Linear or Transactional models, I have chosen Interactive Models for communication. This model enables two-way communication with feedback, which may not always be simultaneous. However, this feedback is still valuable, even if it is indirect or slow. In some cases, communication may become linear if receivers fail to reply to senders. The Interactive model of communication refers to mediated and internet-based communication. Communication models are crucial for understanding communication processes and how information flows. They provide detailed information on the communication process, introduce various conceptual frameworks, and highlight the elements of communication. Additionally, these models offer tips on effective communication. They also identify the barriers or noise that may hinder the communication process, making them a valuable tool for research.
Five fundamental principles of communication for this model. Communication involves several components that affect how messages are formed and interpreted. These components include channels, feedback, field of experience, physical context, and psychological context.
Channel
A channel is the medium used by both the sender and receiver to communicate, such as
the internet, in-person conversations, phone calls, or text messages. 5
Feedback
Feedback is the response sent by the receiver to the sender after receiving the message,
and it is essential to continue the communication encounter.
Field of experience
The field of experience refers to the knowledge and background possessed by the sender,
which influences how they form the message and how the receiver interprets it. It includes
factors such as culture, social behavior, and psychology.
Physical context
Physical context refers to environmental variables that affect communication, such as
location, climate, lighting, or the layout and interface of digital tools. It is crucial to consider how
physical context can impact communication, as it can affect the comfort and calmness of the
participants.
Psychological context
Psychological context involves mental and emotional factors that influence
communication, such as anxiety, stress, emotions, happiness, love, and excitement. Positive
psychological states can lead to better communication outcomes, and negative states can hinder
them.
A description of how this model illustrates ethical communication. Effective communication is not only about what you say, but also when and where you say it. For instance, it is crucial to help the correct client (end-user) remotely with their laptop issues at the right time. Extreme scenarios like this show us the significance of carefully selecting the time and place to communicate.

To ensure successful communication, be tactful and considerate in deciding the appropriate time and place. Plan and strategize by researching your audience, the available mediums or channels, and global events that may impact the reception and perception of your message. Remember, timing and location play a vital role in effective communication.
