Communication – Tysor and Segovia
1.
Ms. Tysor uses a variety of questioning strategies in her lesson. How does she assure that her instruction is effectively communicated, and students understand what is being taught? Give at least two examples from her lesson. Ms. Tyson encourages critical thinking in her class. She also make sure she is very attentive to each student in her class. By the answers that her students give she can gage if the are understanding the lesson or if the still need some work. As the lesson continues to grasp there attention and they answer the question even though it is wrong they are still learning.
2.
Ms. Segovia teaches her Spanish class primarily through discussion. Give some examples of how
she effectively recognizes student misunderstandings and how she responds to clarify the lesson concepts. When a conversation is required during a lesson, the teacher has different ways to assure her students are understanding what is being taught and answering any questions that may asked. During discussion in the class the teacher is listening to the responses the students are giving. The students had problems with language and vocab to articulate themselves. This shows the student have not yet got a full understanding. Once the teacher identified what was misunderstood she gave the students and more simpler explanation to was not grasped by the student.
3.
Ms. Segovia relies on verbal responses to determine student understanding. What are some strategies she uses to encourage student participation? Give at least two examples. Ms. Segova can use multiple techniques to assure student participation to gage what the students has comprehended in spoken answers. Using Concept-Pair-Share is a cooperative learning approach where the students learn and consider a issue on their own at first, then come together in pairs with the class and show what they all came up with in the group. Some steps that she uses she has students offer up questions in class during the discussion. They talk with there pairs about what they came up with. The teacher gives the students the issue to assess.
4.
Ms. Tysor and Ms. Segovia use a very similar teaching style in their lessons. They both use class discussion with open student response. Compare and contrast the questioning techniques of both teachers using examples from the video.
Both teachers use collaborative learning in their class using discussions with a open student response. There strategies used to ask the students questions are different from the other. Ms. Tyson uses open ended questions while addressing her students. For example she asked her students,” What have you learned about the era that this text was produced in?”. “Also what relevance does it have?”. These questions help the student have a more in depth understanding of the lesson being learned.
Ms. Segovia uses more of a inquiring method to get students to comprehend the reading for a more in depth understanding. She makes the show evidence to support their conclusions. For example she asked,” What does the color blue mean in the text? How does it further the story’s ultimate meaning?”. This has them fine tune there skills to explain overall text and show evidence.
