Main Discussion Post: Burkholder, Cox, and Crawford (2016) explain that theories are "to explain, predict, and understand phenomena and, in many cases, to challenge and extend existing knowledge within the limits of critical bounding assumptions." The role of theory in research is to frame what is observed and how is viewed and thought of. The purpose of theory is to extensively explain what has been previously questioned and support further findings. There are different sets of theories within one theory (broad theoretical and formal theories). Theory allows researchers to use the contributions of other researchers to connect a single study to an extensive base of knowledge. Education plays an important role in social transformation of a child's success. Analytical and empirical research is the bases of the educational theory. The educational theory should connect different levels of reality in order to be effective and authentic. While education is a broad theory, behaviorism could also relate. According to Karpov (2019), there is a crisis in education that causes the inability to create effective models of education and its development. According to Social Science Theory - an Overview | ScienceDirect Topics (n.d.), "Most social science theories view social life as organized by structural entities (e.g., social institutions, cultural symbol systems, structures of race, class, and gender, etc.) that stand outside of the flow of events in everyday life and exert a more or less determining influence on the course of those events." My ontological assumptions aligns with education depends on the individuals interpretations of a phenomenon (Burkeholder, et al., 2020). Ontological principles create duality in the nature of the education phenomenon. The universal aspect of education makes it what it should be and characterizes the unchangeable factors in it. The ontological assumption of education gives an approach to understanding its social and existential essences, reflecting a dual nature of a person. The social essence of education is expressed in its action as a system of cognitive initiation into society, which gives an individual an overall “picture” of the world, a social reflex, and instrumental knowledge (Karpov, 2019). My epistemological assumption aligns with the reflection of questions of epistemological nature can help educators to be more intentional in their teaching – allowing perhaps the students themselves to become aware of their own learning process and personal development (Justas, 2021). Epistemology focuses on the different between believing and knowing. The major concepts is to learn what is known and what is truth. Our own personal epistemology influences our own theories of learning, and consequently, how we approach, design, and delivery of our classes. Epistemology focuses on our knowledge of reality ( COURSE: 8 – KNOWLEDGE and CURRICULUM - Unit 1: Epistemological Bases of Education , 2020) .
