1.
What were your expectations of marriage prior to being married? Before getting married, Veronica considers what she expected from a marriage and shares her thoughts, fears, and hopes for the union. She was able to envision a
partnership built on shared values and a strong bond derived from shared beliefs because of her upbringing in a close-knit family of six where love and faith were paramount. Her dream was to have a caring, loving relationship where both of them could grow and support one another. She desired a partner who upholds the same morals and beliefs in order to provide their kids with a comparable upbringing.
2.
How did these expectations change during the first year of marriage?
Veronica talks about how her expectations of marriage evolved in the first year of marriage, especially in light of her relationship with her church friend Bronson. She shares how the realities of merging two lives, navigating differences, and learning to communicate effectively brought both challenges and opportunities for
growth. Bronson, being an only child, and Veronica, coming from a larger family,
grew up in completely different households, making it difficult to adjust initially. Moreover, Bronson had no intention of raising a large family, in contrast to Veronica's dreams. Nevertheless, as time went on, they both learned to be open to understanding one another's viewpoints on family and candidly shared their future
goals. They grew closer as they learned to balance their individual aspirations and
shared goals while adjusting to married life.
3.
Were there any additional changes in subsequent years? Further changes in Veronica and Bronson's marriage occurred in the years that followed. They took a big decision to move closer to Veronica's parents' house in Sacramento, which allowed them to feel more supported by the community and closer to family. Their relocation also gave them the chance to network and take advantage of new opportunities in their new community. They also welcomed Hazel, a Pitbull they adopted from a nearby shelter, into their family as a furry member. Hazel brought happiness, company, and a sense of duty to their home, and she soon became an indispensable part of their lives. Their relationship was further cemented during the caregiving process as they collaborated to give their pet a loving and supportive environment. Despite these adjustments, Veronica and
Bronson remained resilient and determined as they weathered the ups and downs of married life. Despite the difficulties they encountered, they remained dedicated
to helping one another, being honest with one another, and fostering their relationship. All things considered, these extra adjustments made in the years that followed strengthened their relationship and enhanced their journey together.
4.
What advice would you give to young people who are thinking about getting married. Veronica and Bronson provide insightful guidance to young individuals thinking about getting married. They stress that the cornerstones of a solid and long-lasting
partnership are open communication, respect for one another, and shared values. They urge couples to spend quality time getting to know one another and to be honest about their hopes, aspirations, and expectations for the future.
