An Advocacy for Intervention and Prevention Programs for Underserved Girls At-Risk of
Juvenile Delinquency
Introduction
According to Hockenberry, girls who are labeled as at-risk, especially those from
underserved backgrounds, are frequently involved in the juvenile justice system(2022). There is
a lingering question regarding the fate of these underserved and marginalized girls especially
those who have been within the juvenile justice system. How are these young girls going to
shape the next generation? This white paper focuses on the pressing need for intervention and
preventative initiatives to help change the trajectory of their lives. Utilizing organizational and
stakeholder-derived internal data, this alternative approach allows the problem statement to
emphasize the importance of stakeholders when seeking to meet the needs of this vulnerable
population(Stelzner, 2007). It addresses cognitive-behavioral therapy and how it has remarkably
reduced recidivism rates and promoted positive youth development (Jeong, Lee, and Martin
2014). It addresses the need for mental health, education, and trauma informed intervention.
In South Africa, a major area of concentration has been the implementation and
coordination of crime prevention programs at the municipal level to address social challenges
(Rakubu, Modipa, & Chauke, 2023). Young girls who are at-risk or involved within the juvenile
justice system show a pressing need for comprehensive intervention and prevention programs.
This issue has been emphasized by a variety of market drivers, including a rise in the number of
young people who are getting involved with the judicial system, obstacles to accessing
high-quality social services, education, and pregnancy prevention services and a lack of
accessible community-based initiatives. Girls are more prevalent now than they were in the past,
despite the fact that they are still underrepresented in the majority of juvenile justice system
stages (Hockenberry and Puzzanchera, 2023). These market drivers show the need of
implementing effective prevention measures and the need for interventions to address the
particular challenges faced by girls who are at-risk. This essay's goal is to analyze these market
issues and offer targeted solutions that could lead to positive changes in our community.
Ethical Considerations
Protecting the privacy and well-being of at-risk girls is a top priority. I plan to promote an
open and professional atmosphere by guaranteeing informed consent, safeguarding participants,
and maintaining confidentiality. To ensure consent is given, I will provide all participants with
the purpose, potential risks, and expectations. Before they participate, I'll obtain their written
consent and make sure they are aware of their rights and how their information will be kept
confidential. This includes following the NOHS standards and privacy policies. I will maintain
the highest ethical standards while protecting their rights and confidentiality by ensuring ethical
oversight throughout the research process.
As the Executive Director of POH Memphis, developing relationships with key
stakeholders and community leaders is a daily task which means synchronizing these research
objectives with the organization's mission is no issue or concern. Establishing alliances with
stakeholders and working with educators, social workers, juvenile court staff, and community
leaders are some of the actual duties being done for the study. Some important steps include
doing a literature review of research design while keeping in mind the guidelines. The study is of
high morale and is sensitive to the needs of young girls who are at-risk so I will participate in a
variety of events in order to obtain data and promote collaboration. This includes conducting
needs assessments using techniques including surveys, interviews, and literature reviews to
understand the problems faced by at-risk girls. My plan is to improve the importance of
intervention programs for at-risk girls through campaigns, social platforms, and networking.
