I chose the movie Inside Out. (2015) for this essay, the clip is an example of how characters use effective listening to express empathy. The scene where Sadness and Joy are on their way to headquarters, listening to Sadness and understanding her perspective. Joy is the dominant emotion. This is an example of effective listening with empathy, Joy soon comes to realize that sadness is not only a negative emotion but also plays a role in Riley’s well-being. The resource I chose was a clip called “Listening and understanding with empathy” In this clip a little boy was sad about losing a soccer game, a girl walked up to him and asked what was wrong and he told her to which she replies “there will be more games, it’s just a game” and the boy walked off. A second girl says to the first girl that they should check on him because he was walking slowly and with his head down, signs of with him. They approached the boy and he continued to tell them that his grandpa was at the game, and he wanted to make him proud. Upon listening to the boy and understanding what he was sad about, the girl felt empathy for him.
