Loteria Project Part III: Data Analysis & Literature Review (10 points) DUE: February 23, 2024 by 11:59PM PST Submit on Canvas assignment folder You have collected your research data. Now it is time to analyze your data and identify literature from the course (and beyond the course) that supports, challenges, or relates to your data. First, you will engage in data analysis by identifying common themes throughout your interviewee’s responses. You are expected to identify 2-3 common themes from your data and describe each theme at length. Secondly, you are required to read, summarize, and describe how each article supports, challenges, or relates to your interview data. There is no page length requirement for this assignment. The quality of each response is what matters. Focus on answering the questions in-depth and with clarity. 1) Data Analysis a) What 2-3 themes emerged from the data (interview)? Name, describe and provide an example from your data for each theme. You can paraphrase or include a direct quote from your interview as the example for the theme. i) Example : Familismo (theme). Familismo was a common theme throughout the interview with my sister. She said “Family is everything” when describing her definition of excellence in the home. She also spoke about excellence in the community as “Treating each other like family.” 2) Literature Review a) Look through the course readings and identify 5 pieces (assigned readings and Stolen Education documentary may be used) that support, challenge, relate to, or name key themes in your data. For example, if you identified familismo as a theme you would include the Lopez (2019) piece from week 2 to name and describe what familismo is. You will summarize each reading and describe why each piece is relevant to your data and how you will incorporate it into your upcoming research paper. Below is an example of how to write each of your i) Example : López, Basile, V., Landa-Posas, M., Ortega, K., & Ramirez, A. (2019). Latinx students’ sense of familismo in undergraduate science and engineering.   Review of Higher Education ,   43 (1), 85–111. https://doi.org/10.1353/rhe.2019.0091 Lopez et al. (2019) explorer the way Latinx students who are majoring in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) feel a sense of familismo. They use the concept of familismo, the cultural value of family, in their study. Key findings point to the fact Latinx undergraduates did not feel a sense of familismo in STEM. They felt a sense of competition among their peers and they felt like they needed to figure things out on their own even when they asked faculty for help. However, they did find a sense of familismo in Latinx STEM oriented organizations. Here they felt like they could be themselves and felt in familia with peers. I will use this article to define familismo in my research paper and to identify the ways in which my interviewee felt a sense of familismo in their community.
