Visuals aids can be an effective way to emphasize a point during a speech. For example, it might be difficult to persuade your audience they should care about recycling unless you show them the impacts on the environment. Think about persuasive speeches you have experienced. How did the speaker incorporate the use of visual aids? What made their method effective or ineffective? Visual aids include items like poster boards, videos, and Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentations. When you plan a presentation, you want to select the best visual aid for the type of presentation and audience, and it’s important to choose a visual aid that will enhance rather than distract from your oral presentation. Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:  What is a specific example of a great use of a visual aid in an oral presentation? What made the chosen visual aid effective?  What have you learned this week about what makes any visual aid effective? One presentation that I have witnessed and will never forget is when I was in middle school in Health Sciences. The presenter used a PowerPoint and pictures during the presentation. The presentation was on “sex health”. The presenter showed pictures of each disease that you could acquire from sex. That presentation will forever be imbedded in my brain due to its graphic content. The visual aid was definitely effective because everyone in the class was listening to the presenter and they were not talking or cutting up in class like usual. Everyone in class was just in shock from what was being taught to us. The pictures in the presentation caught our attention and kept our attention on the presenter to hear and understand what they were saying. The pictures were clear, high quality, and concise. The class was definitely not trying to read the presentation and listen at the same time. The class did more listening than looking while the presentation was going on. This week I have learned that visual aids must be clear, concise, and of high quality to be effective. The visual aid helps the audience understand your message and understand a difficult concept or theory. The visual aid should be large enough to be clearly visible to the entire group. Avoid unnecessary decorations when using visual aids.
