Information Presentation Part A
Part A: Three Essential Behaviors and Three Other Micro Skills That Are Needed to Form
a Professional/Collegial Relationship
Crucial Behaviors:
Empathy:
To be empathetic means to understand and experience another person's feelings. It means
putting yourself in their position, acknowledging their emotions, and reacting with kindness and
understanding (Geldard et al., 2016). In a work setting, empathy builds rapport and trust by
creating stronger bonds with clients or coworkers.
Non-judgmental-judgmental with unconditional positive regard:
Being accepting of others and not passing judgment on them based on their behaviour or
beliefs is a sign of having an open mind. It means treating people with kindness and respect
rather than passing snap decisions or criticism. An act of unconditional positive regard is
extending sincere encouragement and validation without any conditions.
Genuineness:
Sincerity and authenticity in interactions are components of genuineness. It entails
speaking honestly and without pretence about your intentions, feelings, and thoughts. This
conduct fosters an environment of openness and trust, opening doors for deeper professional
relationships.
Micro skills:
3
Paraphrasing:
The skill of rewording someone else's words in your own is known as paraphrasing. It
exemplifies attentive listening and shows that you are interested in learning about their
perspective. This micro-skill makes sure that everyone is on the same page and helps to clarify
information.
Reflecting:
Reflecting entails giving voice to the feelings and opinions that someone else has
expressed. It affirms their experiences and shows that you are sensitive to their emotional state.
This micro skill, which communicates empathy and understanding, is particularly important in
circumstances where emotional support is needed.
Summarizing:
Condensing a discussion or a set of ideas into a brief synopsis is the act of summarizing.
It makes sure that important details are noticed and highlights the main lessons. In professional
settings where complex information needs to be communicated effectively, this micro skill
comes in very handy.
In a professional or collegial setting, these behaviours and micro-skills work together to
create a foundation for successful communication, understanding, and cooperation. They create
an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and assistance, which eventually results in more
contented and productive work environments.
