Position on Prompt A: What is the most important thing colleges can do to keep students
safe and engaged during the Coronavirus Pandemic?
The approach of learning by the use of the webcams is among the schools' platforms used
by schools and colleges to keep their students safe. Many students seem not comfortable using
the webcams as among their platforms for their remote learning during the period of the
coronavirus pandemic. On the other hand, the students across Michigan were using Zoom and
Google Meet, among other platforms during the coronavirus pandemic, to interact with their
classmates and teachers through the webcam ion this period. The use of this approach kept the
children safe from the Covid-19. The paper will focus on some important roles played by
Webcams and various challenges coming with it. Using this approach, I believe there are
numerous challenges to keep the students engaged and focused in the absence of the teachers'
physical appearance in colleges and other institutions. They can expose the students to stress as
they reveal their home environment, which will be addressed.
I tend to support the Webcams' use as they play an important role in keeping the students'
ways from gathering, protecting them from suffering from conducting and spreading covid-19.
Additionally, the Webcams' use is essential since it can allow students to screen short their
discussions while away from the gathering, keeping them safe. Furthermore, the students can
record the classroom discussions to review them later.

Moreover, I support the notion that the Webcams enabled through the Google meet and
Zoom was critical and fundamental as it allowed the colleges’ students, other students worldwide
to access the classrooms and learn. This would ease without wasting much of their time traveling
to school or colleges. Traveling would expose the children to the dangers of the Covid-19 and
getting exhausted on their way to schools. Consequently, by doing this, the students would be
protected from covid-19 by being taught through the Webcams.
Nevertheless, Webcams' use was not very efficient. It exposed the students to stress
simply because, by use video, the student's home environment will be revealed, which may seem
not pleasing to them and expose them to worry. Tandy Moore affirmed the same thing by saying
that the Webcams were harmful to the students.
Contrary, this approach was challenging to implement since some students in homes
where there was no Wi-Fi could not access the technology appropriately. The access to classes
required a lot of data that was very expensive and unfordable to some. Similarly, the approach to
keep students safe and free from the covid-19 came with some negative implications of bullying
and discrimination. These implications might be caused by the fact that through the video
classes, the students' home environment will be exposed, and this would form the basis for the
discrimination and bullying based on the condition of the home.
In conclusion, colleges and other institutions have used Webcams and different virtual
approaches to conduct online classes and hence protect students from exposure to the Covid-19. I
support the idea behind using this approach since it has helped a lot in the attempt to combat the
disease. Despite many challenges facing its implication, the approach needs to be applied as it is
essential.
