My Career as a Teacher Essay
As I begin my rewarding career as I teacher, I sit and reflect on what my goals and priorities are in
the classroom. I am excited to be engaged in a future career where I can implement my own beliefs
and mold the future into something extremely positive. I believe the most important aspects that I
want to bring to my students are threefold: I want to educate, motivate, and inspire.
In order to have a productive learning environment where I will be able to educate my students,
many different factors must take place. First and foremost, it is important to me that I master

These learning styles include; auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. By mastering and using as many
learning styles as I can, I will make sure each student is able to get the most out of their learning
experience. I understand that every child learns differently and understanding how to use different
approaches in each lesson plan will benefit every student. Not only is it important to use different
learning styles but I will also use different teaching styles during the curriculum. The different
methods I would like to use to teach my lessons include but are not limited to; scientific
investigation which uses the scientific method
. The scientific method includes first investigating the
problem, coming up with a logical hypothesis, performing the experiment, reading the results, and
finally completing an analysis of the results. The next method I would explore is decision making
which is the thought process of selecting a logical choice from the available options. Next is
problem solving. When I teach the students to problem solve accurately they be able to overcome
obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue. Next, I will help my students think
critically which includes identification and evaluation to problem solving. Finally, I will use the
method of cooperative learning which is an approach to organizing classroom activities into
academic and social learning experience. I believe that every one of these method can be valued

Is your life important to you? That is a statement anyone would replay, "yes" to. As surprising as it
may seem, though, an important, successful life would not even be, without one essential element:
teachers.
Teachers, educators, instructors, mentors, or baby–sitters, whatever they may be classified as, they
are necessary for many reasons. They are foundation or our American society, they are a source of
security, and possibly the parents some never had.
They are the foundation of our American society, meaning they educate everyone. Attending school,
whether it is public, private, or home taught is mandatory in America at a certain age. Therefore, all

Those are just a few illustrations of the obligations teachers have. These should not be considered
obligations, but honors. Who would not want to be such an influential role model in others' lives?
As I begin my teaching career and the years prior to it, many ideas and decisions will take place.
Being that I plan to teach elementary school and deal with small children, I plan to be excessive on
classroom accessories. Children have a limited attention span and a dull, plain room would not be
appealing to them. The adjustment of leaving "mommy" will be hard enough for them anyway. I
hope to make the environment comforting and welcoming for them. Bright colored bulletin boards
and posters with needed information on them. I would like my students seated around the room in a
circle. From experience, I've found that children feel more at ease and apt to speak up when seated
this way.
I believe the teacher should be authoritative, especially in the lower grades. The students need to
know who is in charge and feel that there is someone of authority to look up to. Still yet, I want the
children to feel a sense of authority, to make decisions and play a leadership role. Possibly, let one
child be "leader of the day" each day; for example, lead the lines or pass out the papers.
Motivation and discipline, I view as the primary topics of educating a classroom. Children have to

such they carry a huge responsibility in the classroom. Everything the teacher says or do has a great
impact on students' lives as students depend on the teacher for guidance, for determining acceptable

Furthermore, promoting the expression of ideas in a free, non judgmental way in the classroom is of
great importance. The way teachers can understand the student's point of view on various topics and
may be the outcome of this can be greater appreciation and understanding.
Based on the evidence provided from this concluded research, it can be inferred that positive
expectations led to more successful outcomes. Therefore negative or low expectations result in poor
levels of success. Hence, the following consequences can be discussed to show how teacher
expectations influence students learning in the classroom.
When teachers have low expectations of students their learning is negatively impacted and affected
in several different ways. The teacher's and the students' attitude to their work is wrapped in low
motivation, because teachers seem to think that because much is not expected and if the teacher
lacks effective strategies for working with such students, then the outcome of success is low then
they are less likely to want to teach these students and teach them well. If per chance the student
notices the teacher's attitude towards them then again it doesn't work well as it is perceived as
evidence of their low competence and the drive to perform well is erased.

Why I Want to be a Teacher
As an elementary education major, I desire to become a teacher because I would like to give back to
my community the education that has been bestowed upon me. My thoughts of becoming a teacher
become increasingly more clear daily, as I love to work with children. The children and I seem to
connect well, together. I think teaching is a part of my family's heritage as most of my family have
been teachers. Therefore, I feel teaching is the profession for me as well. If I can help but one child

Some students have one set method of learning and grasping material and cannot deviate from the
method. If so, the students have a hard time handling the material. We must incorporate various
teaching styles to correlate to each student.
We need to make learning fun for students and refrain from the usual "Mom, do I really have to go
to school" kind of day to having students who are eager to learn and state "Mom, is it time for
school yet?" We as educators and teachers must strive to meet a middle ground with our students so
that all are willing to learn from the teaching process.
The five step proposal by John Dewey would be an excellent method for solving problems: become
aware of the problem, define it, propose various hypothesis to solve it, examine each consequence
and test the most likely solution.
As you observe the classroom, some students will be taking notes while others are sleeping or
talking. Students who are sleeping or talking will not learn as well as the students taking notes. We
should make our class diverse by providing various activities, projects and learning experiences
among our students. A teacher can also keep students active by reviewing and receiving feedback
about what the students already know. Then the teacher should begin their lecture as this is where

Why am I a teacher? When I was a child I always had to pretend play school with my friends and I
always had to be the teacher. My mom was a preschool teacher at the local day care center and I
grew up seeing her cut bulletin boards and plan lessons. My best friend in middle school 's mom was
also a teacher. I never wanted to be anything else and didn 't really have a back up plan if this
teaching thing didn 't work out. In this paper I will take you on a journey through my educational
years in elementary school and middle school, my time high school, delve into my time in college
and then into my career as a teacher. When I was a child I had many happy memories. I was born
and raised in Lowell, Michigan. A small, rural town with very little diversity. I attended schools in
the Lowell Area School District from kindergarten through 12th grade. As I sit and reflect on my
elementary school years, I have many happy memories. I had positive relationships with many of
my teachers; especially in my K–4 years. Mrs. Pomper always made me feel welcomed and always
greet me with a smile. Mrs. Sterly taught me to read and Mrs. Ham always had confidence in me.
These are three of my teachers in my early years I will never forget. My grades were good and I was

Lurking over our great country is a troubling issue that is plaguing the professional educational
workforce. When compared worldwide, American teachers work the most hours, yet are paid in the
lowest brackets when related to the top 32 nations (Teachers Pay). In addition, when you compare a
teacher's salary to other four year degree salaries, teachers are among the 5 lowest paid degrees
(O'Shaughnessy). Not only are the salaries among the lowest in the American workforce, a typical
teachers at home workload exceeds all other professional jobs by 20% (Current). Furthermore,
teachers were only given a 2.3% salary raise in 2009. Yet the rate of inflation rose to 3.1% causing a

the hours that a teacher is present at school. They do not take into consideration the hours that
teachers put in at home. On average a teacher will work 20% more Sundays than any other
profession, these hours will not be paid or documented into a teachers pay schedule. The reasoning
behind the large at home workload comes from the excessive amount of homework and assignments
that they must grade or create for previous and following work days. Secondly, they are often forced

My First Day As A Teacher
The night before my first day as a teacher I was scared. It was something totally different for me; it
was something I had never done before. Yes, I have made some microteachings at the university, but
that was not the same as been in an actual classroom with kids observing you and waiting for you to
teach them something. In my head, there were questions such as What am I going to do? What
should I tell to the kids? Is this how it is supposed to be done? The next morning, I get up and

This is something that happens to me: in my life as a student I am very quiet, observer, and
introverted; in the other side, as a teacher I like to sing songs to my students (kindergartens), dance
with them and, if possible, use some fun activities. Teachers' beliefs influenced different tasks such
as: selecting and presenting learning activities, preparing students for new language and checking
their understanding, monitoring students' learning, giving feedback, among others (Richards &
Lockhart, 1994). I agree completely with this perception, because it is something that I have noticed
since this course started: in the videos of my classmates, in the classes of my teachers, and in my
own classes. Related to this, another topic seen during this semester was about the lesson plans as
means of reflection. It was something very useful that never crossed my mind: writing some notes or
observations about the class after it ended can be very helpful to discover things that otherwise may
go unnoticed and at the end, it can help us to avoid doing the same mistakes over and over. I found
this tool useful and important to my practice because it helped me to realize some situations that can
present in a class and also it encouraged me to reflect on how can I solve those issues and avoid

I make my way to class avoiding the students and setup and wait in the class until the bell goes at
half past 8. Outside the kids are eagerly waiting to be let inside, like a pack of puppies waiting for
you to open the door just so they can jump all over you with their muddy paws. What do they eat,
must be something like froot–loops. Which would explain not just the sugar rush but a for a few
others something else too. As soon as we are all in class, which doesn't take long, I give
announcements and ask the class to take their chairs to assembly. When we arrive I round up my
class, and once everyone is seated its time to go home. I wish! Though it is about 20minutes later. At
the beginning of every assembly we stand and sing the national anthem. Which doesn't sound like an
anthem at all. Instead of sounding like we are proud and free, it's sung in a droning tone. When we
sit down I shush all the chatters and the assembly begins. As a teacher it's our duty to listen to what
is happening around the school while also keeping a small eye, quite like a hawks, on the class. We
all usually sit back, act interested and see all the small things that go on. Like the two kids who like
each other keep pretending to 'look around the room' but are really trying to catch a smile. Then
