ESSAY Educating Prisoners Student name - Student id 1
EDUCATING PRISONERS The Importance of Prisoner Education Introduction There is a lot of discussion in our culture about whether or not the prisoners should be educated. The prisoner education is a practical as well as humanitarian course of action. Giving inmates access to education helps them get back on their feet and improves society as a whole. Thesis statement - The education of the prisoner is important as it allows them to become a responsible person again and provides them with a chance of correction. But, this education can be proven harmful in a few cases, as not all prisoners change their behaviour and might use this education for another crime after releasing. Discovering Potential via Education Not withstanding one's past transgressions, education is a tremendous instrument that can bring forth one's full potential in everyone. A lot of prisoners are not equipped with the abilities needed to function outside the prison. (Rangel. 2019). We provide them with opportunities to gain fundamental skills like reading, writing, and math as well as vocational training by providing educational programs. Beyond being essential for day-to-day living, these abilities lay the groundwork for potential career advancement. For both literacy and numeracy, a basic education is required. Many prisoners struggle to contribute to society because they lack basic reading and numeracy skills. One prepare themselves for future personal growth by taking care of these fundamental abilities. prisoners can acquire useful skills that can help them find work after their release by participating in vocational training. The creation of a trained workforce, not only lowers the chance of reoffending but also benefits the economy. Disrupting the Criminal Activity Cycle 2
One of its primary advantages is that jail education significantly lowers recidivism rates. Following their release from prison and acquisition of new skills and information, a person is better prepared to reintegrate into society. Additionally, communities are safer because it decreases the load on the criminal justice system. Giving prisoners a purpose and direction through education reduces their likelihood of reverting to criminal activity, thereby empowering them. Reoffending is broken because the underlying causes of criminal conduct are addressed. There are benefits for communities and individuals alike when someone is rehabilitated since they are less likely to be a threat to society. Developing Individual Development and Accountability Education develops human growth and a sense of responsibility in addition to teaching knowledge (Behan. 2014). Hopelessness and despair are common emotions experienced by inmates. A positive view of life is developed in prisoners through education, which offers a road toward self-improvement. Education gives prisoners a sense of fulfilment and value. To successfully reintegrate into society, they must develop confidence, which they do so by overcoming scholastic hurdles. Teaching inmates to accept accountability for their deeds and work toward improving their circumstances can help them become more responsible citizens. This encourages a mindset of personal responsibility by turning attention from past mistakes to future possibilities. Conclusion The case for prisoner education is an important issue and addresses real-world social policy issues. The Education appears as a transforming force within the prison system and it is able to transform the person completely. Education is a fundamental human right. it offers an invaluable chance at a fresh start and opens chances for people to lead better lives. It is discovered that there is a growing danger to their capacity to obtain a good education. 3
