Self Assessment: What Is Self-Assessment?
Self–assessment
What is self– assessment?
According to Boud (1995), all assessment including self–assessment comprises two main elements:
making decisions about the standards of performance expected and then making judgments about
the quality of the performance in relation to these standards. When self–assessment is introduced, it
should ideally involve students in both of these aspects.
Andrade and Du (2007) provide a helpful definition of self–assessment that focuses on the formative
learning that it can promote:
Self–assessment is a process of formative assessment during which students reflect on and evaluate
the quality of their work and their learning, judge the degree to which they reflect explicitly stated
goals or criteria, identify strengths and weaknesses in their

Peer assessment
Students individually assess each other's contribution using a predetermined list of criteria. Grading
is based on a predetermined process, but most commonly, it is an average of the marks awarded by
members of the group.
Merits
Agreed marking criteria means there can be little confusion about assignment outcomes and
expectations.
Encourages student involvement and responsibility.
Encourages students to reflect on their role and contribution to the process of the group work.
Focuses on the development of student's judgment skills.
Students are involved in the process and are encouraged to take part ownership of this process.

Final Self Assessment Essay
Final Self–Assessment
In reflection, my journey through understanding how to be a good writer and a doctoral student is
something I will forever remember. I recall going through 600A and 600B with an idea that writing
was not my strength and very thankful to make it through my master's. While the instructors in my
earlier courses were preparing me through the objectives, I felt myself pulling toward learning the
formatting more than comprehending what kind of writer I wanted to become. Once I passed to
602A and 602B, I found myself keeping track of my message, in which I wanted to make sure what
I said was clear and concise. Those courses enabled me to learn how to create an audience,
characters, plot, and descriptions that would be engaging. The follow–up classes 603A and 603B
enticed me to organize, read, and appreciate my writing material and say exactly what I want to say
in a classy way. When reviewing Henning (2011),

When I first started writing I was writing based off experience and what the teacher might have been
looking for; instead of what I was thinking, how to solve the problem, and just answer honestly. My
writing is an aspect of which I am proud of myself. I reflect on the methods I have embodied that
have helped me grow on both ends of writing and verbal communication. I did not showcase those
skills last year, as much.
The difference between last year and this year is the information that I have inquired. By
understanding the information through Concordia University Transformational Leadership Program,
I have taken possession on a stance within society that I see a need for. Therefore, to get my point
across I had to focus more on context and make sure I was successful with what I was writing. By
keeping my writing simple I discovered that would allow my audience to understand me. As
McGuire, J. (2009) noted, "You can choose what's important as you go along"

Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment Essay
Emotional intelligence, or EI, has begun to make head way in the nursing world in its tie to
leadership. Nurses are people, so they experience emotion just like every other person. Their work is
stressful and trying, it provokes emotion due to the environment and situations at hand. The ability
to recognize one's own emotions, along with those that present in others is an important skill
(Morrison, 2008). Being able to recognize emotions makes it easier to manage our lives and our
relationship with others. These are the aspects that make a person competent enough to say that they
have emotional intelligence
. Supporters of emotional intelligence believe that EI may be more
valuable in determining a good leader than intellectual

I do not enjoy making others unhappy or uncomfortable, so I can gauge my emotion to make them
at ease. The drive to develop a greater sense of my internal state can help me to better develop my
self–awareness. Self–regulation is an area I thrive in, as long as I am practicing self–awareness.
Self–regulation is the management of one's internal states, urges, and assets. Self–regulation can be
broken down into trustworthiness, integrity, comfort with ambiguity, and openness to change (Sadri,
2012). As mentioned before I am able to recognize the way that my mood affects other people. This
allows me to control my emotions and bring them to a level that is more suitable for the situation. In
the past, I have struggled with consistently being able to take full responsibility for my personal
performance; yet, I have made it a priority to internalize the fact that I make mistakes and I cannot
blame those mistakes on another person. I value the ability to be an open and honest person, which
is the kind of person who does not try to blame other for their own shortcomings. In order to be
emotional intelligent, you need to be open to the idea of working on yourself and changing the
aspects that are inappropriate (Faguy, 2012). This is needed in the nursing profession because the
patients and environment are fast–paced and ever–changing. A nurse has to be able to think on her
feet. This is the broad spectrum that self–regulation requires from a person; therefore, it

Self Assessment Of The Classroom Essay
Self–Assessment in the Classroom
Self– Assessment is process by which students monitor and evaluate the quality of their thinking and
behavior when learning and then identify actions that could potentially improve their understanding
and skills. Furthermore, self–assessment occurs when students check the work they've accomplished
and identify discrepancies between current and desired performance (McMillan & Hearn, 2008).
Self–assessments can be used by the student and the teacher; a student would use it as a way to
know if they understand the information the teacher taught; the teacher can use self–assessment in
order to better the course or teaching techniques. When students self–assess their performance, it is
important that we know what techniques to apply and with effectiveness. I will be exploring how
students self–assess their work, and how you can encourage better self–assessment technique. This
paper will also review studies that relate to self–assessment and what has been done to enhance their
use. In all studies used, only English as a first language students and students that are not going
through special education were able to participate in the study. This method of assessment can be
integrated into various classroom activities as well as traditional assessments. The ability to self–
assess one's learning will encourage independence as a student, where you do not to rely on the
criticism of others in order to improve yourself.

Self Assessment
Abstract
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to perceive and express emotion, assimilate emotion in thought,
understand, and reason with emotion, and regulate in self and others. It provides the bedrock for the
development of a large number of competences that helps people perform more effectively. There
are four domains of Emotional Intelligence and they are Self–Awareness, Self–Management, Social
Awareness, and Relationship Management; within these domains they have 18 competences
(Cherniss & Goleman, 2001). This paper will provide an self–assessment review of emotional
intelligence theory based on my experiences, present understanding, and future goals; using the four
domains of emotional intelligence and all 18 competencies to

Journaling helps with deeper reflection, getting people to focus on their past experiences, goals, and
personal mission. Self–awareness is also developed through completing personality and behavioral
questionnaires" (Sadri, 2011, p. 84)
My emotional intelligence in relation to self–awareness in the past was nonexistence; however, I
then realized and came to learn that many conflicts on teams and issues with teamwork have been
directly linked to communication defaults. I continue to understand how my communication
preferences, for instance, how I gather, receive, send, and make decisions continue to affect those
who I work with. An administrative assistant involves the skill of planning, coordination of many
concurrent activities, organizing various tasks and responsibilities and being very detail–oriented
and above being flexible, I strife daily to continue to improve that myself awareness is a continual
task into the future. Golnaz Sadri also explained in his article that self–regulation requires that a
person observe her own behavior and make changes where necessary and requires that a person set
behavior–oriented goals and monitor her progress toward these goals (Emotional Intelligence: Can It
Be Taught, 2011).
Self–Management
Self–management is essential, it suggest the importance of managing one's emotions by using
abilities, such as self–discipline, integrity, and staying motivated

Apa Self Assessment Example
1. I believe when it comes to assessing a fellow peers work their ideas should come across clear and
concise. Their grammar does not have to be perfect, but tolerable for the sake of comprehension. It
should follow the American Psychological Association format (APA), in size 12 font, and Times
New Roman font style. An excellent resource on APA format is Purdue Online Writing Lab.
2. I will assess all assignments as fairly as possible, I would hope the same is done for me, despite
any differences I may have with the writer when it comes to their views on a particular subject.
When it comes to feedback, I would try and abstain from stating my personal feelings or opposing
view, only focusing on the quality of the material being presented. Overall, my response would be
critical, yet positive. This would ensure an accurate and honest assessment on my behalf.
Furthermore, from the Learning Guide Unit this week, Brown, Rust, and Gibbs (1994) suggested
assessment may encourage a more in–depth knowledge of the material, I agree very much with this
theory. By virtue of that, I will take my peers view into contemplation, this way I can think about the
information from a different angle in an attempt to further my own understanding of the criteria.

During an assessment I will use The Three Domains of Learning (Bloom et. al. 1956) from the
Learning Guide, mainly from the 'Knowledge Domain'. Students should be able to recall key
information during discussions, and illustrate key aspects during writing assignments, this entails
comprehension and is indicative of learning.
In America standardized assessment is controversial because some feel it limits the overall range of
education by only teaching the material present in examinations. Using this style of testing methods
to assess students also can have negative effects on the child such as

Personal Self Assessment Essay
Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more
about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process.
You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I
plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success
in earning my Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford University in Social Science. Self Assessment is
the first step in my successful future.
I can remember in high school, it seemed like I was always one of the last students finished with a

example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual learning style.
With this, I prefer to see and read information to full gain comprehension. If I forget the data, or not
clearly understand it the first time read, I have the option of reading it over. I do not always trust
myself to absorb all information the first time around. I take a lot of notes to look at. Notes help me
remember even though I may not read the again, I can refer to them in my mind after writing them
down. I am not sure if just anyone reading them would get anything out of it, but at least I know
what they mean.
I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like to
keep a written list of things to do to refer to. I am comfortable with my learning style, accepted it as
my very own. I am not sure if changing it this late in life is such a good idea. I have got by this far, it
must work out for me.
I have identified my personality style as being extroverted, one who becomes easily energized by
others, and outwardly expressing thoughts as long as I am fully understanding context and material
being discussed. If I have no idea what is being addressed, I am better of keeping quiet to save
myself from

Personal Statement : My Self Assessment
When looking through my self–assessment which analyzed my strengths, abilities, skills and areas
of improvement it made me wonder if all leaders have similar strengths and areas of improvement.
For the project I thought I would look at someone who I considered a polar opposite to myself and
begin to explore this notion of similarities and dissimilarities. The leader I chose was the infamous
Jack Welch. This paper will explore my–self assessment, how that compares and contrasts with
Jack. This paper will also take a closer look at Jack 's skills and abilities and just how they affected
his roles and functions throughout his career.

When looking at the results of my professional self–assessment there were things that surprised me
and things that did not. Let's take a look at each piece of the assessment.
Strengths
The strengths listed from my self–assessment were responsibility, analytical, achiever, intellection,
and input. I feel that these strengths are fairly accurate when we are talking about my leadership
abilities. I am a very responsible leader and in this sense of responsibility has been a gateway to the
other strengths that I posses. The other listed strengths I agree strongly with is achiever and input. I
do see myself as someone who is always striving to achieve more. Because I am an "achiever" this
goes along with the input side of strengths. A

Essay on Writing Self-Evaluation
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to
evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue
to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself "what have I learned
this semester?" and "what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing
?". Answering both
these questions will help me with my last step of my self–evaluation, developing a plan to learn new
skills.
During this semester, I have strengthened my writing by trying new writing techniques, learning
about purpose, and finding new ways of combating writers block. My first essay in this class was
less focused then the essays I wrote later in

I have struggled with writer's block with often. In the past, I've learned to take breaks while writing
to help alleviate symptoms of writers block; however, during the semester I have learned to carry a
pad of paper with me so that I can write down idea's while they are fresh in my mind. Writing down
my thoughts has helped me avoid writers block because I have a list of thoughts about the subject
before I have even started writing. When I struggle less to write it improves my essay's by
decreasing my stress, this can be seen in my writing. I was afflicted with writer's block while trying
to write both my compare and contrast essay and my description essay, this caused me a lot of stress
and caused my essay to suffer. On the other hand, when I wrote my classify and divide essay I did
not have to deal with writer's block. As a result the stress level was greatly decreased and the
improvement is substantial.
Although my writing has made some good progress during the course of this semester, I still some
things I need to learn in order to keep improving my writing. Grammar, writing in an active voice,
and building my rewrite skills are three examples of skills I need to build upon to continue to
improve me writing.
Even though my grammar has improved during the progression of this class, I still have a lot to
learn before my knowledge of grammar can contribute to my writing. I have never had an aptitude

I have found that self–assessment of my knowledge and personal skills will keep me on the right

knowledge I identify that I require. Monitoring this is important, as it will be the difference in
achieving skills and not being competent. Taking any opportunity to learn, or build on my current
skills is essential in progression. I need to take advantage of technology that may help me in
accomplishing and achieving goals and skills. Recognising that I have potential to do and be

majority of the time I am a visual learner. I try to take a mental picture of things I see or highlight a
lot when learning. What is good about this learning technique is that I can usually do things after a
demonstration is shown or after ive read instructions. It allows me to become a quick learner. I
understand that I need to continue to learn and develop skills, as the competition is growing
everyday. Once I've identified the skills and knowledge I need, I can plan so that I have reading
material that will help me gain them. I need to ensure that I am constantly learning, because
technology is used in almost every organisation, and is easily accessible I need to take advantage of
it. I can read and study pictures, diagrams, handouts by both the organisation and outside sources.
Because I am a visual learner, I found that I fall into the category of "Global" Simultaneous

everything is interrelated and that skills can be built upon other skills. This will ensure that I am up

A Multicultural Self Assessment That I
Journal: Multicultural Awareness Below, I will discuss the results of a multicultural self–assessment
that I took. I will describe a time in which I felt "other". I will then proceed to explain my personal
feelings regarding each. I will discuss a course of action I plan to take as a result of the multicultural
assessment. I will develop a counseling identity statement. Finally, I will explain why multicultural
awareness and cultural competency are important in the field of counseling. Multicultural Self–
Assessment Taking the multicultural self–assessment provided me with some insight. Most of my
answers were a four or five. However, I did score two number threes. The first question I ranked
myself as a three on was, "When I need assistance I am comfortable asking for it," (Petrone, 2004). I
am not fully comfortable asking for help. This is something I will work on. The second question
which I ranked three was "People are generally good and I can accept them as they are," (Petrone,
2004). I agree with the second half, I can accept people for who they are. I am very nonjudgmental
and I try to keep my mind open to all possibilities and situations. However, I see things that really
make me question if people are generally good. Overall, according to the self–assessment, I was
rather well–rounded multiculturally. First Time I Realized I was "Other" The first time I realized I
was other was when I was in high school. I always excelled as a student. During my senior year, I

A Research On Self Assessment Essay
Awareness of one 's strengths and weaknesses is a critical antecedent to human need fulfilment and
therefore to adjustment. In the process of identification and implementation of learning activities, it
becomes obviously imperative to identify the goal or purpose of a learning effort (based on a need or
weakness) and the resources immediately available (strengths) to reach that end. While there are
many obstacles such as psychological defence mechanisms, an established self–concept, the level of
motivation necessary to pursue such an exercise, etc that hamper completing this task, a sincere
effort cannot be undertaken without first addressing the issue of assessment. Therefore, the need for
self–assessment stands out as the first action to be taken, and perhaps the most crucial, insofar as it
establishes not only the desired outcome, but also the nature of the means by which it will be
realized. This paper attempts to analyse various views available to us based on the research done till
date and to assess feasibility of introducing self–assessment in Indian context with reference to
communication skills in English. The thrust is laid on the various possibilities of introducing self–
assessment in formal education in Indian context wherein communication skills are taught to
students in all the professional courses. The passing ratio is good but the complaints recruiters have
is that the students lack communication skills. There are multiple reasons for the inadequate

My Self-Evaluation Of Speech
This paper will discuss mine self–evaluation and do into detail about my first speech. My first
speech takes place in front of my class and I have to tell a story of an experience that has happened
to me. Telling a speech was a new experience for me and I embrace the challenge. A speech can
have an impact on a person life and the audience can also relate a topic that is being presented. I will
explore and go into the details of ethos, pathos and logos of my speech for my personal assessment.
I think I did a good job presenting my ethos through my speech story. I convince my audience with
my credibility through my speech and the way how talk throughout the speech. For example,
throughout my whole speech, I shown my hands and did not hide my hands. By keeping my hands
in plain view, it shows my audience nonverbally that I can be trusted. The volume of my voice was
at a normal speaking tone and was not too low. Most of my audience was able to hear me and listen
to me very clearly. I also presented myself with confidence and gave off the impression that I was
prepared. For example, I had a smile and had constant eye contact with my audience throughout my
speech. There was certain things that I was doing that was ineffective while I was talking.
Throughout my speech, I kept saying um and was pausing at times. I did not realize how much I was
saying and doing these actions. These actions are something I need to work on more when I present
my public communication to my audience

Self-Assessment of Emotional Intelligence Essay
Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is an important characteristic in becoming a good leader. "Emotional
intelligence is the ability to manage oneself and one's relationships in mature and constructive ways"
(Kinicki & Kreitner, 2009, p.137).Being a good leader entails more than just being smart; leaders
need to be able to connect to their employees emotionally and empathetically. Organizations today
not only look for leaders with the skills, but leaders that can emotionally connect to employees to
obtain the organization's goal. "Leaders have always played a primordial emotional role. No doubt

dealing with individuals and becoming an effective leader. If I do not take the time to do this, I can
get trapped in trivial issues and forget what is important and eventually forget my emotional

Effective social skills are another aspect of emotional intelligence that I must acquire. Obtaining
effective and efficient social skills will enable me to build long lasting relationships within my
personal and professional lives. Building strong relationships will lead to establishing trust. Trust is
one of the most significant aspects of emotional intelligence. When trust is absent, much time and
exertion is spent on issues that are unproductive. Productivity will also decline when an employee
does not feel he or she can trust his or her leader. In addition, when an employee does not trust his or
her leader, he or she will be less creative and will not want to express his or her ideas. "The greater a
leader's skill at transmitting emotions, the more forcefully the emotions will spread. Such

life. This was a unique experience where I was emotionally comfortable enough to look back at life.

it spun out of control with each purchase. There were days where I would squander money like there
was no tomorrow. I never planned for the future let alone on for the next meal. For the
