Fashion Newsletter Assignment
Instructions:
Working in groups, students select one of the following assignments and create a
fashion newsletter for the school:
A: Investigate peer opinions regarding school uniforms and crate potential uniform designs
B. Research a clothing self-adornment tradition
C: Gather information regarding clothing etiquette
Topic A
Design a short questionnaire to survey your peers about wearing a school uniform (ex.
Are you in favour of a school uniform? Does a uniform increase school spirit? Does a
uniform stifle individuality? What uniform design do you prefer?)
Each student polls 10 peers (not in the class).
Collect the results and prepare charts and graphs to illustrate the data.
Using the response ideas in small groups, students design several versions of a school
uniform for male and female students.
Results are written as a short newspaper style article with an interesting title
Topic B
Research a historical self-adornment tradition practiced by a particular culture.
Investigations should question how the adornment was used as a means of protection,
modesty, identification, status, decoration, or observance of ritual.
The group should also determine whether this tradition exists in the same or some form
today.

Students reflect on a personal experience of selecting clothing for a specific occasion.
Brainstorm a series of questions relating to your clothing situation. Write Advice Column
letters, based on their questions, asking for advice on what to wear.
Students exchange letters.
Research the responses using a variety of sources (ex. Parent, grandparent, personnel
manager, image consultant, wedding consultant, etc) and write appropriate responses.
Results are written as a short newspaper style article with an interesting title.
