EDUCATIONAL SERVICE PLAN EDU 647 – Families, Communities & Diversity Professor Thinh Nguyen
Introduction Becoming a special education teacher is a priority for me because I want to assist students with having the strongest foundation necessary for building their future on. I believe that regardless of the disability, every child deserves a strong an opportunity to learn. Communication allows teachers, parents, and the community an opportunity to work together to build a solid educational foundation for children. Communicating with parents is a huge responsibility that teachers face. Failing to keep the parents informed of the progress of their child academics is the reason for missing an opportunity to bridge communication, which is essential in the life of children (Teaching Community, n. d.). Communication can be carried out in multiple forms.
Effective Communication Using notes such as book/journal is an effective way for teachers to communicate with parents. Using a communication log allows both the teacher and parents an opportunity to leave and receive notes for each other. Parent/teacher conferences are essential as well.

Conflict Resolution and Collaboration/Communication Tips Family involvement as a priority for the success of the student. School will assist families with enhancing their parenting skills. Assist parents with understanding the adolescent development of the child. Assist parents with providing a home environment supporting learning. Conflict exist in a project and without it means that fearing to voice an opinion is present (Woodard, 2013)
Service Delivery Model and Special Educators + In Manuel’s case, the best delivery model is for him to remain in the regular classroom that consist of co- teachers. + Teacher will assist him with language barriers
Transition and self-determination, Self- Advocacy and Self-centered Planning + It is essential for IEP students to receive transition services until they reach age sixteen. + Self-determination focuses on the needs of a student. + Self-Advocacy is an essential aspect of transitioning. + Parson-centered Planning – the decision-making and problem-solving skills necessary each day (Bateman, 2004)..

Parents and Transitioning Parents play a critical role in the lives of their disabled child, when they transition to adulthood. Parents are responsible for ensuring the proper mandates are provided. Parents can assist with ensuring their child understand the availability of services after leaving school (Austin, 2000).
Conclusion + The academic success of all students, including disabled students is important and providing a strong foundation is necessary for building their future. One of the biggest responsibilities of teachers is communicating with parents. In situations where communication fails, an opportunity of bridging communication is missed which is essential in the life and success of the child.
