Running head: SPEECH ANALYSIS PAPER 1 Speech Analysis Paper Hilary Almaraz Florida SouthWestern State College December 5, 2022
SPEECH ANALYSIS PAPER 2 Speech Analysis Paper The informative speech video is one of the most engaging assignments I have done in a class as it involved a lot of cumulative reading based on the concepts I learned over the course. The topic of meaning behind language, specifically linguistic prejudice, was carefully selected after reading through chapter 4 of the course textbook. Selecting this topic was intentional since I wanted to understand more about linguistic prejudice and also sensitize the class on the importance of awareness around the use of words and their meaning. The fact that I consider myself a part of the social minority groups in the country also contributed to the urge to understand this topic more and how to address some emotive words (Gamble & Gamble, 2018). The topic also challenged me to recognize gender lects based on the differences between the way men and women interpret languages. Preparing for the speech assignment was a tough task that could only be achieved through proper planning. Selecting the topic was not an easy decision but it proved to be the right call since I could communicate an important message and learn from it as well. Setting up for the speech assignment involved a lot of writing and rehearsing to ensure that I got my content delivery just right. I put together some materials that I thought would be useful for the video and critically read through them to ensure that the content was brief, to the point and appropriate for the audience. I relied on a key strength, the ability to conduct thorough research, to complete the speech. After the speech was ready for the final video, I put together some notes on small cards that would guide me as I delivered the speech on video. The delivery of the speech could not have been possible without a bit of practice. I did a few practice videos on the day before the submission date. These practice videos helped relieve the tension as well as identify some mistakes that needed to be fixed. I learned to cope with a

The use of supporting materials such as the two notes allowed for the class proved vital since I was able to deliver the content as I had imagined with the assistance of some key oral citations. I believe the verbal delivery of content was on point save for a few minor issues such as the frequent pauses to compose myself. The use of hand gestures was also a bit above normal as expected in the video presentation and could be improved in the future. I believe that the PowerPoint presentation which was well put together provided a critical guide for the viewer to understand the content and make a deduction based on the verbal and non-verbal presentation. I did my best to be as audible as possible to pass my message across to the viewers. I also tried to be considerate of the viewers and what their needs regarding this topic are in the execution of the video. Some key questions I asked myself as I recorded this video were; how important is this presentation to the viewers? How do they feel about this topic? What is expected of me to keep the viewer entertained and focused on the presentation? (Gamble & Gamble, 2018). All these questions proved vital as I undertook the video assignment since I was deliberate in my delivery. I also ensured that I was objective throughout the video and avoided bias so as not to weather down the message in the video.
