C205 Leading Teams Task 2 Virtual teams are a unique way of collaboration that comes with its own set of challenges and strengths. In my experience with a virtual team, everyone performed specific functions in the assigned team roles. One, while another member's weakness in time management affected our ability to meet deadlines. To mitigate this weakness, we implemented clearer task delegation and regular check-ins.
Our team communication practices were primarily through virtual meetings and messaging platforms. We
actively sought individual feedback and ensured transparent communication among team members. Collaboration was built through shared goal-setting and mutual support, fostering a sense of unity despite physical distance.
Conflicts were managed through open dialogue and compromise, emphasizing the importance of understanding different perspectives. Our decision-making process involved consensus-building and considering all team members' input, ensuring a fair and inclusive approach.
The team experienced various stages of development, from forming and norming to storming and performing. This journey highlighted the importance of patience, adaptability, and effective communication in achieving our collective goals.
Team S composed of myself Taqulia Vanderhall, Melissa Ferguson, Sarah Sink, and Bradley Irwin. Melissa was Team Leader and was tasked with both organizing and leading the group. Sarah was Presentation Compiler; she was responsible for delivering compiling and engaging our presentation. Myself as Note Taker/Timekeeper, I took notes, and organized ideas, and managed the allotted time for discussion meetings. Bradley the Reviewer/Publisher, he was tasked with analyzing and translating the data compiled and our documents. Strength of team member Team member Melissa strength in organizing and structuring tasks greatly benefited the team's efficiency. As a Leader, Melissa showed remarkable commitment to keeping the group engaged, and focused on our shared objectives. She was very communicative with all parties and made sure that all were on the same page. Melissa was willing to go above and beyond set a positive example for the team.
C205 Leading Teams Task 2 Weakness of team member My weakness in time management affected our ability to meet deadlines. With frequent travel obligations, this project began during a week that I was traveling from the east coast to the west. I was able to communicate my delayed, but I was also less accessible than I would have liked to have been. I had already despite given them my availability. Despite my attempts to communicate delays and stay connected, I was not as available as I needed to be. Flight delays only added to the challenge, making it tough to coordinate my schedule with team meetings. I realize that this situation placed my colleagues in an awkward situation, who had to adapt to my unpredictable schedule. I felt that this was a impediment to
my team as they had to alter, to accommodate my schedule for the week.
Team Communication As a team we setup our communication practices right away. We initiated through email early on to discuss communication preferences and availability. Once aligned, we set up a Google Team meet call to communicate through this we decided that would email and text be the most efficient and quickest way to work as a team. The team has agreed to once a week meetings and file sharing so that everyone can edit
document in real time. This would provide all team members with a layer of transparency. As Facilitator, Bradley played a pivotal role often guiding the conversation.
Individual Feedback We established a system where all communication records would be maintained through email. Any changes or updates would be maintained by SMS text. We built a shared folder with real-time editing capabilities, allowing us color code personal edits. This enabled us to track modifications made by
team members, providing a comprehensive overview of our discussions and decisions.
T
eam collaboration
C205 Leading Teams Task 2 Regular meetings were established, and clear goals were established, and open discussions were fostered. With the use of face-to-face meeting, we were able to talk and address the best way to outline the slides for our presentation. With the use of these strategies team members effectively worked towards a common goal. Melissa made sure she was able to guide the team towards collaboration efforts. Sarah encouraged participation from all members. Bradley the facilitator was able to set the tone while establishing a culture of engagement. We agreed that by June 10
th
the presentation would be completed. We all shared a common goal providing a sense of direction, motivating us to work together to achieve the overall purpose. Managing conflict
We decided that the majority rules. We would take a vote for any decision or when a team member is not present or unreachable. We value the diverse knowledge of each member and strive to ensure everyone can creatively contribute to the decision-making process. Yet if they can’t this allows us to maintain momentum. Team Decision Making As we work towards degree completion, as a team we decided to assign a team leader at the beginning. A democratic style ensuring that every member had an equal say in decision-making. From the
start it was stated that we would address and talk about idea as a group along with showing respect for each other suggestions. We relied heavily on course material to aid us with assignment criteria. Team development At the beginning of the Forming stage, our team sought clarity from our course outline on the expectations and assigned roles to each member. Once we accomplished, we focused on the task ahead, we used our strong points collectively for achieving objectives. Our prime aim was teamwork and goal objectives as a result, we were able to jump on the Storming stage quickly onto Norming and Performing stages.
