Identification Identify three or more nonverbal communication cues. Message Given the situation, identify the message you think is being conveyed. Interpretation Explain why you think this is the message being communicated from the nonverbal communication cues you identified. What other factors in the situation lead you to believe that this is the message being communicated? Could the nonverbal communication mean something else? Why or why not? Tapping on the class Shared form of communication between husband and wife. Understood only by husband and wife. This could be a shared form of nonverbal communication that only the sender and receiver understand. An example of this is Morse Code, a combination of sounds, to communicate a message. (Oxford University Press (OUP), n.d.) The nonverbal communication could also mean that the husband was tapping on the glass in the area that he wanted the wife to slide the contraband under the glass. He could have been tapping to nonverbally show her where to place the contraband. Nodding The husband showing his approval and encouragement to the wife for her to place the contraband in the correct place so it made it to the other side of the glass. The husband nodding when he is not tapping could be his way of encouraging his wife to complete the task he has asked her to do, by placing the contraband where he wants her to. This could also be him giving her encouragement in a nonverbal way, so that she doesn’t became scared or frightened and not complete the task. The nonverbal communication of the husband nodding could also mean that he is become impatient with his wife and nodding to her to complete the task because she had not completed it yet and he wanted her to get the task done. Bouncing leg The wife continuously bouncing her leg because she was scared and nervous. The wife could have been bouncing her leg continuously because she knew what she was doing would get her and her husband into legal trouble and she was trying to keep herself calm during the visitation. This nonverbal communication could also mean the wife was becoming impatient with her husband and the situation and did not want to complete the task he asked her to do.
