4) A studentanalyzed a sample of water collected from a lake at the FIU Maidique Campus to assess its alkalinity and buffering capacity using the APHA 2320 method. To perform this analysis, the student measured a 60 mL portion of the water sample and followed the step-by-step procedure in the Manual page 33. The titration was conducted using a standardized solution of hydrochloric acid (HCI) with a concentration of 0.0321 M. The student observed the phenolphthalein indicator changing from magenta to colorless after adding 2.00 mL of the titrant. Subscequently., added a few drops of methyl orange to the same sample and proceeded with the titration until the color change from orange to salmon was noticed. The student recorded the volume of titrant consumed from the first to the sccond indicator color change as 8.00 mL. (a) Foraccurate interpretation of the results of APHA 2320 it is necessary to record the P-and T-alkalinity volumes correctly. In this case, what are the P- and T-alkalinity volumes? Consider the following statementsProper use of internal vibrators include
Vibrators can be used to move concrete horizontally
To avoid the internal effects of bleeding, the vibrator should penetrate to the bottom of the layer and at least 150 mm into any previously placed layer
The distance between insertions should be about 1 ½ times the effective radius of the vibrator
To speed up the compaction, Internal vibrators can touch the reinforcing bars of the element but not the formwork.

A jet of water having velocity of 20 m/
s strikes a curved vane, which is moving
with a velocity of 10 m/s. The jet makes an
angle of 20° with the direction of motion of
vane at inlet and leaves at an angle of 130°
to the direction of motion of vane at outlet.
Diameter of jet is 50 mm. Calculate:
1. Vane angles so that the water enters and
leaves the vane without shock
2. Mass of water striking the vane
per second
3. Force exerted by vane in direction
of motion
4. Work done per second on vane by jet

Problem 1
A wastewater treatment plant is required to disinfect its effluent before releasing treated wastewater into
a neighboring stream. An inflow concentration of a certain infectious germ in the wastewater is 25,000
mg/L. A concentration of 2,000 mg/L is the highest concentration that can be released. It is suggested that
the disinfection process employ a pipe that carries the effluent. The length of the pipe is 1000 m and the
reaction rate constant is 0.1 min¹. Assume that the pipe behaves as a steady-state plug-flow system.
Determine
a) The residence time of this system (min)
b) The speed of flow in this system (m/min)
c) If the pipe has a diameter of 250 mm, determine the flow rate in the pipe (m³/hr)
