Thank you for your insight. Evaluating this patient’s symptoms, I would say he is experiencing an anaphylactic reaction, as he is having difficulty swallowing, tachypnea, and tachycardia, and his O2 levels are dropping, along with his blood pressure. Guo et al. (2021) explain that an anaphylactic reaction has respiratory and cardiovascular hallmarks, the same as this patient is experiencing; thus, I think anaphylaxis is a better diagnosis. Anaphylaxis can be fatal if not treated immediately. It is imperative that this patient gets a dose of epinephrine and secure the airway. Further treatment could include IV fluids, corticosteroids, antihistamines, and/or bronchodilators for symptom management. It is also important that this patient is closely monitored to prevent complications. Thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend. Guo, Y., Proaño-Pérez, E., Muñoz-Cano, R., & Martin, M. (2021).
