4-2 Project Two Milestone: Consulting Report Amazon MBA-500-Building Business Leaders Southern New Hampshire University Amber Vazquez Professor Ryan Allison
Introduction As a popular clothing retailer known for their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Patagonia focuses on the overall impact that their products and business models have on the world. Their mission statement is “we’re in business to save our home planet” (Patagonia Mission and Vision Statements Analysis, 2023). Since Patagonia is a privately owned company, their financial records are not available to the public. In this report I have provided an analysis of Patagonia’s mission, vision, values & CSR initiatives along with the financial records of ABC Beauty Company & Amazon to understand which financial key performance indicators (KPIs) align with Patagonia’s mission, vision, values & CSR initiatives. Common Financial KPIs Upon reviewing ABC Beauty Company & Amazon’s financial records, some common KPIs that align with Patagonia’s mission, vision, values & CSR initiatives include; Return on Investment (ROI), Inventory Turnover, and Employee Satisfaction Index (ESI). Patagonia has 3 main components that they prioratize within their mission statement: Distinguished quality, improving lives and saving the planet (Patagonia Mission and Vision Statements Analysis, 2023). Patagonia provides quality, well made products that are produced through their sustainable efforts. The merchandise itself does come at a bit of a cost, however Patagonia is clearly able to justify their prices by their self-imposed 1% Earth tax. Customers can feel good knowing that when they purchase a product from Patagonia, they’re helping support environmentally friendly initiatives. Patagonia can account for higher inventory because they produce durable, long-lasting goods that help support their sustainability efforts. This also allows for faster sales and reduced overall
waste. Like Amazon, Patagonia can focus on employee satisfaction, by measuring the ESI, Patagonia can focus on how to retain and develop their employees. There is a clear correlation between happy and engaged employees that are more willing to buy into the company’s CSR initiatives. For example, “As Patagonia employees, our Global Sport Activists are using their roles in the sport community to drive positive social and environmental change” (Patagonia.com, 2023). Employees are more likely to want to work for a company that believes in the same core values that are important to them. How CSR Activism Can Lead to a Better Brand Image and Financial Results When a company’s business practices consistently participate in CSR activism, it ultimately leads to positive social and environmental actions that lead to better imaging overall. In 2018 Patagonia changed their mission statement to “We’re in business to save our home planet” as a companywide effort to preserve and protect the environment. Patagonia recognizes that there is a sever issue with the current environmental state of our planet, and with their platform they intend to set the standard of how a business should operate under the CSR model. This social responsibility leads to better brand imaging and financial results by attracting new investors, employees and customers which then will result in increased financial performance. Patagonia’s alignment between social responsibility and financial success is a perfect example of how a business can continue to grow sustainably while also having a positive influence in the world. Incorporating CSR Activism Strategies to ABC Health & Beauty Company KPIs ABC Health & Beauty Company could benefit from incorporating CSR activism strategies to the company KPIs to help increase overall revenue. Using the same example set by Patagonia, it is crucial that our company make an environmental pledge to reduce our overall carbon footprint.

Next, we may want to consider establishing sustainable production practices like reducing overall waste, recycling and identifying better packaging and shipping methods. Our customers want to know that the products they purchase from our company are truly going to benefit their overall health and the planet as well. What is more beautiful than using a sustainable product that can benefit both the environment as well as our well-being and health? By implementing CSR activism with our current KPIs this will increase our overall brand image and reputation that will result in better customer & employee satisfaction as well as increased sales and overall revenue.
