Kai Thng 3-19-2023 Week 3 Self Evaluation Path-Goal Leadership Questionnaire
I enjoyed completing both the path-goal leadership questionnaire and the leadership behavior questionnaire because I think these two theories spend a lot more time talking about the behaviors and approaches that a leader can implement as opposed to the previous management theories in this book. I tried to be as accurate as a I could in both for both surveys and in the second questionnaire I answered from the perspective of the follower with my leaders being my professors here at JBU. The path-goal leadership questionnaire told me based on my 1-5 responses to the questions that I have a directive style score of 26, a supportive style score of 30, a participative style score of 24, and finally a achievement-oriented style score of 20. According to Northouse, this means that my directive, participative, and achievement-oriented style score is in the range of 18-28 meaning that they are in the moderate range, while my supportive style score is above a 29 indicating it is in the high range. Considering these results I think I definitely can see how this describes my leadership style because although I do love to support my fellow team members when it comes to working together, I do honestly sometimes take over projects when I feel concerned that they may not be performing to the standards I set in my own mind which is why my participative score may be lower than my supportive score. When it comes to my directive score, I would say I am assertive in taking charge, but I do not overly enjoy ordering others around or telling them exactly how they need to get things done. Finally for the LMX-7 Questionnaire
achievement-oriented score, I think it is the lowest because I am more of a hands off leader in that I would rather lead by example then constantly reminding or encouraging my followers to reach the standard I expect. I think there can be some improvements I can implement after taking this questionnaire like being less hesitant to state my expectations from my group and being more trusting to let my employees have larger roles and responsible for harder tasks that need to be accomplished. In regards to the LMX-7 questionnaire, my score of 30 indicate a high strong quality leader-member exchange occurs with the leaders I interact with, which in this case are my professors here at JBU. I think this was a cool test to take because it showed me and helped me see all the ways that my professors are able to keep me engaged and motivated to work hard at absorbing all the things they impart to me. In the future when I become a leader with followers like my professors, I can be cognizant to employ the same techniques like recognizing my followers followers or expressing confidence in them in order to foster strong quality leader- member relationships as defined by the LMX-7 theory. I really did like taking both these questionnaires and I look forward to utilizing what I learned to become the best leader I can in the future!
