Within the last two months, I acquired a new laptop, which was done with a combination of
controlled and open-ended techniques. Initially, the limited problem-solving approach was used when I
realized that my first laptop had become slow and outdated. The third stage involved choosing
characteristics like processing speed, internal memory, and battery power that would be crucial for my
needs. In the limited problem-solving location, I utilized my past knowledge of technology, read online
reviews, and asked for peer suggestions (Brem et al., 2019, p. 350). It helped me eliminate many
possibilities in choosing the best brands and models quickly ().
Nevertheless, the decision-making moved on to problem-solving because several attractive
choices appeared equally acceptable (
Thomann et al. 2019, p.40)
. To take it further into the extended
problem-solving process, I resorted to using peer-reviewed sources that would enable me to
comprehend how the short-listed models performed for an extended period were durable and satisfied
their users (Brem et al., 2019, p. 350). Consumer behavior and technology adoption academic studies
were instrumental as these gave me insights into how some of the psychological factors influenced my
decisions ()
According to the article (The Impact of Consumer Reviews on E-Commerce), a peer-reviewed
study highlighted the enormous influence of online reviews on consumers’ purchasing
decisions. Another research paper, "Understanding Consumer Decision Making: Personal Values as an
Extended Problem Solving Process for the “Means–End Approach to Marketing and Advertising Strategy.”
Using an extended problem-solving approach, I thought about my decision's short and long-run impact
(
Thomann et al. 2019, p.40)
. Finally, I settled on a laptop that satisfied my immediate needs while still
being relevant in the future, considering the immediate-term and extended problem-solving procedures
to make an enlightened choice.
